I think many people have heard of this before and some will vote for the PAP because they are scare that PAP will check and than take revenge on those people who do not vote for them.
I first heard this when I was a kid. My parents told me next time must always vote for PAP because they say that your vote is secret is rubbish and after the election the PAP will check who vote for the opposition party and than take revenge on them.
The 2nd time I heard this was during my teritary days. 1 of my classmate said that her bf voted for the opposition party and the PAP take revenge by sacking him from the civil service (he is working as a a civil servant at that time and he vote for the oppsoition party).
Can anyone verify if this is true
How to verify this is true or not? I do not think any common civilian like us can verify this is true or not. Of course I must say, with a barcode or serial number and ticking off our NRIC against the voting slip we took, what is there to stop them from abusing the system? So we can only guess and I do not think we can ever verify the truth about these rumours.
If got people close to you kena then easy. If not then good luck verifying. =)
bukit panjiang is safe.
here no need to vote
Welcome to the 'real world' of Third World Politics practised by LKY and the PAP in Singapore and towards Singaporeans.
"Revenge" ?
Did you not see the "revenge" on the politicians who dare to challenge LKY and his plans - there were the actions taken against those who dared to challenge his idea to merge Singapore into Malaysia ?
Those who dared were all caught in LKY's ‘Operation Coldstore’ (*1) - which he planned with Malaysian Tunku Abdul Rahman and the British Colonial Government, so as to ensure themselves a successful outcome to a rushed merger with Malaysia process.
In the other thread - ‘Dr Lim Hock Siew speaks for the 1 time post-detention’ (*2) - the cruelty and criminal abuse towards Singaporean Political Detainees is tantamount to Crimes against Humanity conducted by the Singapore Government - when it breach its own Prison Laws in its criminal treatment towards fellow Singaporeans detained under the ISA.
The list of Singaporeans suffered under the vengeful act of LKY and the PAP will also include - Lim Chin Siong, Chia Thye Poh, and their collleagues rounded during Op Coldstore, Dr Lee Siew Choh, Tan Wah Piow, J.B. Jeyeratnam, Tang Liang Hong, Francis Seow, Vincent Tan, Teo Soh Lung, Fong Soh Har, and those accused of being communists in the Singapore Catholic Church and branded as Marxist Conspirators; Ryan Goh whose PR status was revoked for daring to stand up against LKY and speak on behalf of the Singapore Airline Pilots - and of course Dr Chee Soon Juan.
The "acts of vengeance" are not directed at individuals who dare to take political or socio-political actions against LKY and his PAP - but towards entire constituency that cast their vote for the Alternative Political Parties.
These recriminative acts of vengeance take the form of total pettiness such as bus routes are cancelled to inconvenience the constituents, HDB upgrading works are suspended, the entire constituencies are deliberately "starved".
To the credit of the residents in Potong Pasir and Hougang Constituencies, they snubbed the petty politics from the PAP, and continue to return the incumbents Low and Chiam to be the Member of Parliament to be the voice of the constituents.
I think the opposition MPs can attest that the votes are kept secret. From what I recall, the opposition MPs are required to escort the ballots to disposal after they have been counted.
The only "tracking" that I understand is possible is up to Block Level. Which means, if your hdb block has a large numbers of opposition votes, good chance you will get your elevators last. As for civil servants getting the sack cos they voted opposition, I highly doubt so since the disposal process is witnessed as well. More likely, he was a loud mouth who has said too many things without tact.

Sylvia Lim is an opposition MP, she is lecturing at Temasek Polytechnic, which is a statutory board, hence, technically making her a public servant. Don't see any "revenge" on her. PAP only gets 66.6% of votes, do you think the government will seek revenge from the 33.4% of voters?
If 90% vote for opposition, will PAP take revenge?

What 66.6% of votes did the PAP get in Election 2006 ?
That is a big lie that the PAP make to give themselves some legitimacy.
The total number of electorates in the Registered Voters Roll numbered 2,147,840 Singaporeans.
The Total number of votes that the PAP received in the Election 2006 was 748,130 votes.
This represent only 34.83% from the List of Registered Voters.
What kind of legitmacy is this when one consider that the ‘Total Population of 4,401,400 Singaporeans – from 0 to 65 years and over (July 2006 est)’ (*1) - the PAP can only get 748,130 votes ?
Comparing the Singapore Election held in this Little Red Dot, the Indonesian had conducted their Presidential Election 2009 across thousands of islands.
Still the near impossible tasks saw that the ‘Indonesians had a Registered List of Voters that numbered 171,265,442 citizens; and the Total Votes countered was 104,099,785 votes’ (*2) - which gives the Election Results a greater representative results of the will of the Indonesian population.

That is not the point in my statement. The fact is that there are a large numbers of people who did not vote for the PAP and it is quite impossible for PAP to punish every single one of them. My point to the TS being that, vote for who you think is best for Singapore, don't vote for PAP just because you think you will suffer some sort of revenge.
Ts is a fool...

my analysis is out of the 66.6 % lets assume civil servant make up 30 %, which mean only 30 % voted for them..

You are right.
The PAP cannot possibly attack every single Singaporean who give their vote to any member from the Alternative Political Parties.
If 45 per cent of the registered list should vote for the Alternative Political Parties - that will represent 966,528 registered voters.
It will be nice to see the MIW dancing around in panic, after the arrogance that they displayed after each deceptive win.

u might never know. Have you ever heard of the story of a traffic police catching two speedsters at once?
all i can say is if the candidate for opposition is good then i will vote for them.
i will vote for my future not for singapore's future
this singapore is not the one I once knew
Yes voting is based on people preferences. if the candidate for opposition is good then they will vote for them. But in recent years, the PAP has not distinguished itself apart from the opposition, so this resulted in more people voting for opposition as voting PAPA has not improved their lives either.

moral of the story: If Thunderstrike not able to punish all voters who dun vote for thunderstrike, Thunder can only strike a percentage of voters who do not vote for thunderstrike.
