Changes in town councils following General Election
SINGAPORE: The Ministry of National Development (MND) said the new town of Moulmein-Kallang has been formed under the Town Councils (Declaration of Towns) Order 2011 following the General Election.
Due to significant boundary changes, Jalan Besar Town Council has been dissolved, with its operations largely handed over to the newly established Moulmein-Kallang Town Council.
11 other town councils are reconstituted as some areas under their purview have become part of other towns, with the change in electoral boundaries.
The management of these areas will be transferred to the reconstituted town councils with effect from August 1.
Among those reconstituted, the town councils of Ang Mo Kio-Yio Chu Kang, Hong Kah, and Sembawang have been renamed.
They're now known as Ang Mo Kio Town Council, Chua Chu Kang Town Council, and Sembawang-Nee Soon Town Council.
MND said at the request of the elected Members of Parliament, Hougang Town Council has been dissolved and combined with the reconstituted Aljunied Town Council to form Aljunied-Hougang Town Council.
The other reconstituted town councils are the town councils of East Coast, Holland-Bukit Panjang, Jurong, Marine Parade, Pasir Ris-Punggol, Tanjong Pagar, and West Coast.
There is no change for the town councils of Bishan-Toa Payoh, Potong Pasir, and Tampines as their town areas remain unchanged.
