Hi Guys,
I am moving to Singapore in October, and looking for some advice regarding healthcare, accommodation and the general life style.
My month budget is about US$ 2200 which needs to cover monthly rent, health insurance, living expenses etc. Are there anythings I need to plan for before I get there. My work are arrange visa.
Any information is welcome.
Cheers.

I agree Wholeheartedly. And i've stayed in both countries
healthcare here in singapore is costlier than city like bangkok and KL, not so sure about HK's case. But I am sure you can quality healthcare here. Also, your employer should be able to enroll you in some group health insurance system. Also a visit to private practitioner in neighbourhood centre should cost you no greater than 25USD per visit.
Depending on where is your office, you may want to choose housing nearer to your workplace. Singapore is a small island with 5M population, the public transport is filling to the brim. The traffic is very heavy during rush hours. Car ownership is very very costly.
Living expense in low in singapore, food is cheap here. US2200/month for monthly expensive put you in the upper class living.
Singaporeans are voicing the displeasure of increasing number of foreigners.
Remember to pay your taxes.
i want to move to hongkong, working towards it
Hey Me too!! perhaps at the end of the year if i'm lucky we should keep in contact LoL Let me know if you succeed
prepare to work long hours in sg without overtime pay
no life singaporeans work too long hours, can work up to 12 hours per day and get less than 6 hours of sleep per night
i suggest u move to europe or australia for a smarter and more vibrant, yet more relaxed working culture

Not true that Aussies are more laid bacl. It depends on the company and the boss.
I know of Aussies who slog at the office as long as what we do in Sg............
HK is a great place... let change positions... lol..
U$2,200 (@1.36 = S$2,992)... you won't get a rented apartment near town for sure..

hahaha... yeah lor... US$1 only gives you S$1.36 at current interbank...
hence, US$2,200 converted to only S$2,992. now that rental rates are at the high, getting a studio apartment may not be easy (maybe at Hillview or Hume Ave area). Utility bills ?
US$2200p/m, just for the rent? ok, thats enough.

lol... tight budget... US$2,200 maybe for whole month expenditures....
TS may want an apartment by hmiself/herself... hence, unlikely getting a room is his/her priority.
Unless, TS can stay further North (Woodlands) or West (Bt Batok, CCK, Jurong West) condos...
but.. sad to say.. you got to eat lots of (Pic below)
in order to keep your tight budget intact...

Well, I am from Singapore PR from HongKong too and i lived in Singapore for the past 16 years. I just moved back to HKG this year to work after my wasted 2 years of NSF. Just to give u some advice(posting) from HKG, if u r a female, singapore will be a good place. If u r a guy who chase for activities/entertainment/freedom/fun, i believe singapore may not be suitable for u after living in HK for so many years. Not to say bad things here, just some of my opinions. $2.2K should be enough depend on how u spent. The living expense is about the same as HKG.
If u think SG is crowded, HKG is the same or worst. HKG working life is more stressful and long hours than SG.
Maybe u can apply for PR after u r in Singapore now. Pay less for health care and other stuffs.
PM me if u want any more advice or give me ur msn
got to look at long term
in 10 years time with the rise of china, hong kong and china will be giants of asia
sinkie is stagnant already with limited land
what are the criterias of becoming hong kong citizen? kindly advise
the living expenses in hong kong is higher compared to Singapore, but your salary is high.
the stuffs in Singapore are cheap but your salary is very low
get it ?
There are cases in Singapore where people are paid $4 an hour.
May I know what would you work as in Singapore?

I concur, there are people in singapore that are paid $4 an hour.
$4/hour can't really get one anywhere..no where in fact..earning $32 a day if he/she is working 8 hours a day.. .
probably a meal at crystal jade?

Crystal jade la mian xiao long bao is possible. A bowl of the spring onion oil noodles is 6 bucks before taxes, etc. 3 pcs of guo tie is $3.60, and the a serving of their xiao long bao is $5.50.
Eh to TS...
I tink you will not like it here...
Food, parking, healthcare, everything is goin one direction ie UP!
At least in HKG, for the price of food i pay, i get value for $$$
Just look at the plate of chicken/roast pork rice...
The meat is sliced so thin you will feel hungri afterwards...
I travel to HKG at least 3 times a year[almost every quarterly] and the only thing good abt SG is the air quality...
Bus frequency/train capacity here n SG is DEFINITELY NOT WORLD CLASS!
