working in a christian environment is scary.

today, when about to leave office liao, the admin auntie suddenly call me in to her room, wah like sibuei secretive like that, tot she wanna give me wat good stuff.
then in the end she say she just wanna pray for me.
then nvm loh, ying chou ying chou her loh, let her pray, wah then all the oh jesus lord this this that, lord let this boy blah blah, lord let this young man blah blah....
ok finish liao.

got another time is during lunch, the gers were talking about last time O levels, then got 1 ger from dunno which school, but no in SG one. dunno is KL or UK, then her Os got this subject call bible studies, she said that no matter how many As or wat u get, u fail bible studies you fail the whole thing. damn nonsense leh.
other times is just hear there, oh go this church go that church, xmas going to go where blah blah blah...
i'm rather surprised no one said grace before a meal though.
i wonder in my office got anyone that is NOT a christian... my creative director quit that time, the last paragraph of his email also all about lord bless u blah blah blah.
sometimes those office emails also about lord this lord that one...
some ppl screen saver put the story of genesis, the 7 days thing.. wah piang. -

On the flip side, I am a christian in a secular environment, almost 24/7 so I understand how you feel, though the incidents are probably reversed... wah piang... always kenna asked to go pubbing and the like... good thing now we all LAN! -

i do remember 1 incident... my bro study in sec in sg... then fail bible study, the teacher or principal actually attempt to bar my bro for the other subjects examination...

to start, i must say that i'm Catholic....
i think to work in an environment like that is scary too.. even tho' i'm catholic!
religion should be something personal.. and their beliefs should never be forced on anyone... most christians take it for granted that their actions are welcomed by people who do not share their faith..
i would strongly tell them not to do so.. and they are surprised and sometimes shocked to the extent that they feel insulted, and worse, because i share their faith...
most cannot get it into their minds that to pressure people into "sharing" their faith is akin to fascism.. and that's the tragedy of it all.. even Tomas de Torquemada thought he was doing the "correct and holy" thing by putting a whole lot of "heretics" to their fiery deaths...
so to each their own.. keep your religion (or lack of it) to yourself...
i would say to christians of ALL denominations: the best way to evangelise is to live a good and holy life.. so much so that people come to you rather than you go badger others...
if you feel the need to pray for someone, just do it... God will know.. there is no need to tell your subject..
and to those who force their views and faiths on others, there is another just like you.. his name is Osama bin Laden.. -

I had this incident too at my ex-working place. 2 Christian girls always reading their Bible every morning and then started to preach to me or their friends over the phone until 10.30am. They will stop at this time coz they know the boss would be coming in soon. As a Catholic I am not considered a Christian to them and they tried preaching the Bible teaching to me, or asking me to go to their church. If I ignored them and I concentrated on my work, they will say that I am not interested in listening in God's teaching. There was a day when one of them asked me whether I noticed that the moon turned red the previous night. And according to them, that's a sign that the end of the world is coming soon. Just then, a strong wind was blowing (just before rain), and she pulled me to the window to say that never such a thing happened before, so definitely end of the world is coming. I was really frightened as I was not prepared to die yet. Every day I would drag myself to work and develop fear of stepping into the office, coz I couldn't stand their preaching anymore. I think part of my quitting the job was due to that. Therefore, I agree that working in a Christian environment is sort of scary. Religion should not be forced, you can invite, but no forcing, if not you will create more fear instead of peace.

If anything, it would be good to know that they probably provide better crisis resolution support then usual then if you are working out in a secular environment... when you have big problems, you have really good help about... their strange ways aside, they are far less likely to pang saey you...

personally i've had a lot of bad experience with a lot of christians with strong-arm tatics........ esp with members of a certain "infamous" church.
Personal belief is "PERSONAL"
