Title: Best Italo Dance Hits 2007 - Volume II
Label: 2007 ARC Records (Austria) / Warner Music (Singapore)
Style: UPLIFTING NRG / ITALO DANCE
In February of this year I have reviewed "Best Italo Dance Hits 2007". The response to this release was enormous. Many if you have falled in love with the current ITALO sound featured in that double CD compilation. C.Y.T. who was responsible for that release on behalf of Austrian parent label ARC Records along with his counterpart JASON CHOW from Warner Music Singapore recently brought Volume II of this series just right for the summer. I think they were encouraged by the original success. Rightfully so. Presented today volume II is a "party in the box" double CD stomper. You will find 38 powerful dance tunes all done in various flavors of what current ITALO sound is all about. It is TRANCY it is HANDS UP it is full of NRG with some HOUSE and JUMPSTYLE influence. Right from the first track "You Are The One" by MILLENIUM you are entering world of best ITALO sound you can get. There are many gems to fulfill your desire for quality DANCE music. Great example is "Tell Me Why" by NORDIC STARS. If you wanted a wild, wickedly exciting NRG/TRANCE ride, here you have it! The synth lines are intense and hot with strong male and female vocals. If you like D'AGOSTINO style, you are for a treat. DJ SANNY J vs. DOUBLE FACE feat. TJ FASTOR in their "Ti Trovero" delivered an atmospheric fare with swirling EURO/HOUSE feel. You can't lose here. S.T.B. presents their "The Way You Do" megahit. Pure, peak-hour explosive power from the first beat to the finish. You should check this tune on CD single with 8 mixes. You will not get enough of it! Another hit you probably need to be introduce to is "No Cover Song" by DEEP.SPIRIT feat. KATHY. This one became a summer hit of 2007. Recorded in HANDS UP style delivers pure joy! For EURODANCE fans there is incredibly well done "Call It Love" by FABRIZIO E MARCO. The synth line are well arranged, strong, powerful with compelling rhythm track beneath the action. Too bad the track is relatively short. I want more! "You are My Destiny" by LA COMPAGNIA DEL MASTELLO vs. S.T.B. starts with gorgeous synthesized guitar lines and turns into powerful and ready to explode tune to keep you on the dance floor forever. on both CDs and they all are of incredible value. I have been fond of DATURA for a long time when their sound was in peak back in 90s. I was thrilled to hear their mix of "It's A Fable" by STEFY NRG. The female vocals here is simply flawless as are the soaring synth lines and powerful rhythm track that roars forward with force and grace. Many more intense experience is awaiting for you from this first CD. There are tunes by FLOORFILLA and very own ARC artists such as MASTERBEAT, DJ THE BASS and DAN-J & DOON-M not to forget TUNE UP! vs. ITALOBROTHERS in thier megahit "Colours Of The Rainbow". The second CD is full of power as well. It starts with "Give It Up" by SALLY CAN DANCE in PAPS 'N' SKAR Remix. I am sure you are familir with them. As a matter of fact this duo is featured in the next tune "Ti ricordi quella volta". Both tunes have that happy, freefall sound that will cheer you up. I want to you to pay attention to "King Of Dancefloor" by KIANA representing Dutch sound. Very clever tune. Kiana's vocal is truly a powerhouse and fits perfectly this more EURO-oriented fare. Great ride for all of you who love EURODANCE. There are other tunes by established in current ITALO sound such as DJ SANNY, LUCA ZETA, DJ BLISCO, DANIJAY to name just few. You will also find new tune from RIMINI PROJECT and interesting tune "From Taipei to Beijing" by SHI XIN HUI (Yes! it is done in the same style as "From Paris To Berlin" from INFERNAL especially for Asian dancefloor). In summary if you thought Volume I was hot, this is at least as hot if not hotter. As you might know this compilation is released for Asian market, but ARC Records is making this one available worldwide. Don't pass the opportunity to own such a great set of 38 tunes to die for! It's A must!!! Enjoy!

Title: Best Italo Dance Hits 2007
Label: 2007 ARC Records (Austria) / Warner Music (Singapore)
Style: UPLIFTING NRG
I think, looking what's already happening in 2007 dance floor I should say this is going to be an incredible year for dance music. Today, I am presenting you brand new double CD compilation featuring current ITALO sound. This double CD set was prepared exclusively for Asian market by folks from ARC Records in Austria. For this special project full responsibility takes C.Y.T. from aforementioned ARC Records and his counterpart JASON CHOW from Warner Music Singapore. This is truly outstanding release. I am flabbergasted by rich selection of tunes for this release. We have 40 tunes on both CDs and they all are of incredible value. The music presented shows what are current trends in Italian dance sound. Fascinating how colorful Italian dance scene is indeed. The value of this set goes beyond that. You have tracks that are not only originating from Italy itself, but also produced outside. Good example is Austria itself. The country shown good deal of music being produced in this style. ARC Records is truly a leading label promoting this sound coming from Austria with such names as FANTASY PROJECT, DANCEFIRE, C.Y.T and many more). Other countries are represented as well (i.e. Spanish projects: MILLENIUM and DJ CUAD to name the few). Coming back to Italian sound. You find several names of interest such LUCA ZETA or DANIJAY representing truly Italian sound. It has that fascinating HANDS UP/VOCAL TRANCE touch but in contrary to that style it has lower BPM dominated by male vocals (female vocals usually is leading in VOCAL TRANCE genre). Quoting C.Y.T. this sound was created to fill gap between HOUSE and styles such HANDS UP, TRANCE or TECHNO. The sound has sunny, summer feeling. The melodies are so very catchy and emotional so if you know Italian you would not resist of singing along. In contrary to club tracks that are usually instrumental with some vocals here and there, this ITALO DANCE sound has massive vocal appearance and typical structure (intro, verse, bridge, chorus and synth part). I will not single out any of the featured tunes. They are all simply great. I actually decided to make quite extensive sound sampler featuring 18!!! tunes from both CDs. I really had hard time to select them, because as I said, they are all good. I have to admit that it is one of the best so far 2007 dance compilations. You really have to get your hands on this one. Quality music in one set comes like this very rarely. Don't pass such an opportunity. I am sad that this compilation was release only for Asian market, but I know ARC Records is trying to make this one available worldwide. So get yourself ready and listen to the sound sampler. You are about to enter fascinating sound of cutting-edge ITALO DANCE sound of 2007! Enjoy!

Title: Trancemaster 5005
Label: 2007 Vision Soundcarriers / Rough Trade (Germany)
Style: Electronica / Trance
Some call "TRANCEMASTER" series the mother of all TRANCE compilations. Well... We have recently celebrated " 50th release with 3-CD anniversary edition, and now we have yet another 3 CD Jubilee box at "TRANCEMASTER 5005 ". I am quite sure that if you are frequent visitor of this site, you know that I love this series. Rightfully so, this compilation is yet another must-to-have set for all of you who fall easily into TRANCE magic. This offering is packed with 32 cutting edge TRANCE fares. An ultimate journey to club-oriented electronica if you will. It is extremely difficult to go through the single titles. The first CD starts with "Social Suicide" by CARL B. Very exciting starter. Solid club-oriented EPIC TRANCE with glorious synths and mesmerizing riffs. I think this kind of sound is what moves crowd back and forth. SIGNUM with "Harmonic" delivers cutting-edge contemporary electronica. The mid-section of the tune is truly a masterpiece of the genre. Yeah! Another mind-invading beauty. There is more tunes to blow your mind and move your feet though. I have to pin-point "Lost Control" by STEVE ALLEN. I was moved by its majestic sound and incredibly glorious synthesizers throughout that at end explode into firework of pandemonium. Very cleverly and passionately done. Brilliant. Period! If you like the BIG ROOM/EPIC feel "Synergy" by JOSHUA CUNNINGHAM is a strong representative. Roller coaster of sound grow this beauty to gigantic proportions. More of epic sound is also given on second CD. It starts with "Cumulus" by NITROUS OXIDE pres. REDMOON. Brilliant, driving and ethereally beautiful synths with elements of philharmonica. What a combination! Stunning! In a similar atmosphere is done "Atlantic" by MERK ETESON. It does not have the same edge though, but still the plethora of killing hooks makes this one irresistibly to listen to. "Euclidian Axiom" by NORTHERN PROJECT contains lots of wild, progressive synthesizers giving this excellent club stomper a unique flavor. More of NORTHERN PROJECT is on third CD with their "Touched By The Angel". This is yet another superb TRANCE production from this group. Very affectionate. You will love galloping synths that soar and a mesmerizing, large room sound that will keep your shirt off in no time. I am sure you will find this issue as amazing offering, as much as I did. It was really challenging for me to prepare sound sampler that could give you an adequate feel. The difficulty stem from the amount of good tracks in this release. I have chosen 16 of them. I have to admit though, that this sound sampler simply gives you a superficial idea about the set. You have to get your own to fully appreciate the content. I had really hard time of getting this set, but hopefully you will get luck as I did. Enjoy!

Title: Trancemaster 5004
Label: 2006 Vision Soundcarriers / Rough Trade (Germany)
Style: Electronica /Trance
"Trancemaster 5004" double CD compilation from VISION SOUNDCARRIERS was released back in 2006. I am late with presenting it, but the sounds remain fresh and quality of music it contains deserve to be presented. I am waiting with anticipation for every volume from this series, because I know that if it comes to cutting edge club-based ELECTRONICA sound there is no match for this series. Again, I was getting what I bargained for. Stunning product with 21 full blown TRANCE tunes on both CDs. Be prepared for the journey to your mind. It starts with dark and sensual "The Ones We Love" by KUFFDAM & PLANT feat. TERRY FERMINAL. Looped male vocal bits and lotsa soaring, magnificent synthesizers to enjoy! Next comes Misja Helsloot pres. Traction Control Remix of "92 Elements" by DAVID FORBES & MALLORCA LEE. A killer track that gets pumped up, fired up and explodes to stormin' hard-charged TRANCE fare. "Go Get Vodka" by BOBINA combines elements of TRANCE and TECHNO HOUSE to one swirling production. You might find the beginning and main course a bit monotonous but the desert does the job. If you like such combination you should check "Real High" by EMJAY (no, it is not Canadian female singer, but MAARTEN OSSEWAARDE aka DJ EMJAY from Holland). For some more EPIC TRANCE you should turn to "Enya" by STEFAN CAMBRIDGE. It is stormin' TRANCE blaster with excellent melody line highlighted by galloping synths and intoxicating strings. For more galloping pace visit "Alegra" by SENSES feat. RTM. This is simply a solid club track with several twists. It has PROGRESSIVE and AMBIENT electronica fused together topped by a beautiful TRANCE undertone highlights. In quite similar mode is "Balearic Bay" by STEVE BIRCH. In addition to fireworks of electronica you are getting that laidback ambient feel of the storming beach with flying birds and sound of waves reaching beach at the dawn. Another excellent club crusher from this release. The second CD is not short of amazing clubbing experience. It stars vigorously with the first tune "Gravity" by PAUL MENDEZ & ZERO 3. It has good elements of TRANCE but it flip flops with some more AMBIENT undertone here and there. Still a good buy for the fiercy dancefloor. "Afterglow" by SPIRIT & DAVE has also AMBIENT feel as the track shifting gears to more speedy beat. I really like this magnificent and ambient moody synths and gorgeous instrumentations. Taken together an excititing volume from this excellent series. I have prepared mix with 13 tunes taken from both CDs. I hope it will do some justice and spice your curiosity. Enjoy the music and get this set! No regrets for spending some money on quality stuff.

C.Y.T. from Austria and Jason Chow from Singapore has been cooperating the last few years in the italo scene and now they are back with another volume of Best Italo Dance Hits, this time the third volume.
The BIDH compilation series, as already proven, has great potential in the 2 previous releases with 40 powerful tracks from producers all over Europe.
Let's get started with the first CD, including 20 tracks with hits from DJ Torny feat Marco, Cliff Wedge, Italian Rockaz and Dr. Alban among others. It is a great pleasure to listen to these powerful songs with incredible arrangements and catchy melodies – we are really flowing into great italo tracks. Most of the tracks are good, only problem is, as you will notice quickly, a lot of them are not really italo. It is a bit disappointing since it is called ‘Best Italo Dance Hits’. Among them are Level 4 feat Deamon, Ma.Bra and Lucky Twice. Though not italo it is still dance.
The 2nd CD also contains 20 tracks, this time it's almost entirely italo, only 1 song is not, which is the one from Cliff Wedge. The rest is full of great italodance hits! Some of them are not that recent, but others are fresh. It does contain a lot of powerful italo, I am especially referring to the song from Moda Phun, which is pure italo. There is also I Feel Alone from The French Touch, a real italo hit - not to forget the bit of Danijay.
Overall it is a fine compilation but the fact that it contains a lot of tracks that are not italo scratches the picture a bit. If the compilation was divided into 2 separate for each CD, CD2 would be the interesting one. Even so you rarely find a compilation on just one CD containing the latest and most interesting italo tracks released the last few months. It is also worth noticing the amount of time spent on the compilation, just as the previous a lot of effort has been put in the cover and booklet, a detail that makes it even more attractive. The selection is not the best seen and the third edition of the series is actually the worst of the three but definitely worth buying if you enjoy dance or if you own the other two volumes.
It all began in the summer of 1989 when the producer and musician Enrico Zabler and the DJ Tommy Schleh met at a party in London. Together they formed the band Masterboy.
In January 1990 is the first single "Dance To The Beat" released, the single is in the charts for 16 weeks and it reached the #24 in the Media Control Single Charts.
In the fall Masterboy goes in to the studio again to record a single and in November 1990 the second single "Shake It Up And Dance" is released. This single reaches the #32 in Media Control Single Charts.

the charts, it stayed there for 4 weeks and then another 6 weeks in the Top 10. The single was a total of 8 months in
the charts. During this time Masterboy was on tour for 4 months, they did 40 gigs in 4 months.
In November the single "Is This The Love" was released.

played in front of 30 000 visitors and 12 million (!) TV-viewers.
In September the single "Anybody (Movin' On)" was released.
In October the fourth album was released, "Generation Of Love". Masterboy also did a tour in October in Asia
together with other eurodance artists.

In March the single "Love Message" produced by Masterboy was released. This single was done in cooperation with
Mr. President, E-Rotic, Fun Factory, Scooter and U96 to support the AIDS help. The single sold gold and got #3
on the single charts.
In the summer Trixi announced they she was going to leave Masterboy. Masterboy started to look for a new singer and found Linda Rocco. Linda Rocco was born in 1966 and had previously worked with Dance 2 Trance and had also sung with for example Milli Vanilli. Michael Jackson wanted her for his 1996 tour but Masterboy was faster.
In July the single "Mister Feeling" was released.
During the summer Masterboy produced ICE MC's new album.
The single "Show Me Colours" and the album "Colours" was released in October.

In March Masterboy went on tour, from Russia over Asia to South America.
In July the single "La Ola Hand In Hand" was released. This single was a doublemaxi and besides "La Ola Hand In Hand"
it also featured the song "Set Me Free".
After more than 7 years of work, they decided they was going to take a break. During this time
Tommy Schleh worked on his soloproject Klubbingman
Masterboy also produced DJ Phantasma's singles "Welcome To The Club and "Revolution".
During this time a Masterboy US-album was produced, the album contained 12 hits from the 7 years of Masterboy.
In August the single "Dancin' Forever" was released. It featured a new sound, a return to the early 80th.
After this single the group decided again to take a break to get new energy.
During this time Enrico became a father, twice, Tommy began building a Discothek and Linda together with her husband started a Singingschool in Frankfurt. During the break it became obvious that Tommy and Enrico wanted
to go a different way musically than Linda wanted.
Tommy, Enrico and Linda decided that they would be producers on other projects where Linda would be the singer.
Now Masterboy once again needed a singer. The musical way Tommy and Enrico wanted to go was totally clear: Dancefloor! Back to the roots. They contaced some agencies in Europe to find a new singer. With an agency in Langen in Frankfurt they gathered 5 singers and together with Enrico they went to the studio.
None of the singers corresponded to what Tommy and Enrico wanted. Enrico asked the owner of the agency (that he knew could sing) also to try. She had everything they looked for and Masterboy had again found their singer. The new singers name was Annabell Kay.
In July 1999 the single "Porque Te Vas" was released.
The single "I Like To Like It" was released in January and was the second single to feature Annabell Kay.
In February Masterboy together with their recordcompany decided to released a Best Of album, due to the 10 year anniversary of Masterboy.
In June a remake of the 1994 classic hit "Feel The Heat Of The Night" was released, "Feel The Heat 2000".
In July the "Best Of" album was released, the album contains all the top hits and also 3 unreleased (on CD) tracks.
A limited 2 CD set, where the second CD contained the first official Masterboy Megamix was also released.
The singer Trixi returned to the group.
In March the album "The Heat Of The Night" was released.
Also a single called "Ride Like The Wind" was released, but due to poor feedback in the clubs no video was made.
In October the single "In Need A Lover Tonight" was released.
The single "Feel The Heat Of The Night 2003" was released on September 22nd.
A best-of album entitled "Greatest Hits Of The 90's & Beyond" was released on October 3rd in Singapore.
Title: Greatest Hits Of The 90's & Beyond
Artist: MASTERBOY
Label: 2005 EQ Music (Singapore) / Germany
Style: EURODANCE
So here we are with classic EURODANCE sound. All serious die hard fans of this sound will recognize the name MASTERBOY instantenously. Their success in 90's was unprecedented. First single released back in 1990 "Dance To The Beat" became an instantenous hit and opened gates of success for this group. An amazing history and incredible pathway to reach stardom status. I am not going to talk about history of the group you should refer to provided links at the end of this review. Well... if you missed their sound or was too young back than to own one, here is your life-time opportunity to become a proud owner of their best hits in one box. Thanks to EQ Music from Singapore we have this double CD album entitled "Greatest Hits Of The 90's & Beyond". First CD contains 21 tunes representing great overview of group's history. It has "Masterboy Theme" featured in very first album followed by many very successful tunes from follow up albums. While TRIXY DELGADO was a lead vocal from the beginning there were two another female vocalists (Linda Rocco from US, and Annabell Krischak) that sang with MASTERBOY after TRIXY left. While both ladies had their qualities, MASTERBOY in post TRIXY period was not exactly the same. So such tunes as "Show Me Colours" and "Mister Feeling" are featuring LINDA ROCCO. "Porque e Vas" and "I Like To Like" in contrary feature ANNABELL KRISCHAK vocals. You will find in this album previously unreleased on any album "Nights Of Broadway". This tune from 1998 is a cover of Gibb's brother successful hit and was released as limited vinyl edition only. It was recorded in R&B style with EURO influence. Second CD (bonus CD) contains exclusive album megamix. Great 20 minutes of party music. As a matter of fact I used it as a sound sampler to present you this album. Taken together, truly masterful release. It brings not only great memory of this mega group but also delivers a powerful anthology of group's achievement. 16 years of success in one box illustrated by titles from different periods of their history. Titles are not presented in chronological order, but you will be able to hear how the sound changed with different female singers and the time they were recorded hence influence of HOUSE, R&B, TRANCE in several of them. I hope I convinced you to buy this album. I am not sure when and if another kind of "The Best Of" album will be released. I am not sure if MASTERBOY will come out with new single or not (the group never oficially ceased of existance) so this album has to suffice for the time being.

You Tune
Listen up! Free music without breaking the law. By Alisara Chirapongse
We all know about iTunes and Amazon. You know those places that make you buy music? And then there’s the much (much) cheaper alternatives disguised under the label “peer-to-peer” such as LimeWire and BitTorrent. But we’re law-abiding types here at I-S, so this week we’re recommending these free and totally legal music-related hubs. You can still remain a cheapo, but at least you won’t be causing a writers’ strike.
Social FM
www.social.fm
Stream your music collection directly from your computer. It’s not an online service per se as you need to install its free program on your computer to be able to broadcast or listen to other members’ music over the Internet. There are other fun gadgets you can do with Social FM though, like putting a player of your music collection on your MySpace profile.
Pros: The ability to listen to your music collection from anywhere so you don’t have to move MP3 files around when you change computers.
Cons: You will have to keep your computer connected to the Internet.
And if you have a pathetic connection, this is obviously not very reliable.
Musicovery
www.musicovery.com
Can you feel the music? Maybe the music can feel you. Whether you’re gloomy or happy, upbeat or depressed, just tell this online music player and it will select music to suit your emotions. If you’re a Nokia user, you can get Musicovery on your phone too—and it’s free.
Pros: It gives you a set of recommended tracks so you can choose which one you want (or don’t want) to listen to.
Cons: You can’t specify artists or albums, just your mood. Also, you will need a high-speed connection if you don’t want your music to stop half way through a track.
Last.FM
www.last.fm
An online social networking site (like MySpace or Facebook) that connects people according to their tastes in music. When you listen to a song on your computer, the website will take note of (or “scrobble”) the track, name and artist, and you can then listen to their online radio based on your scrobbled music collection and find online friends with similar tastes.
Pros: The website has a vast music collection making its recommendations quite accurate.
Cons: Even though you can search for music by artist name, what will be playing will be a compilation of similar bands.
Midomi
www.midomi.com
“Damn, what’s the name of that song that goes, doo di doo di da?” If this constantly happens to you, sing or hum your tune to Midomi and, oh miracle, watch your song come up. This search engine doesn’t work with keywords but with your voice. The service is free but you need a microphone to upload your voice.
Pros: Just looking for songs is hilarious. Think of it as karaoke with an exam at the end. The results are very complete—track name, artist and which album it is from.
Cons: There aren’t real music tracks here, just a bunch of “fan recordings” (other singing lunatics like you). Only any good if you have a tune stuck in your head.
SellaBand
www.sellaband.com
SellaBand is a service for indie artists in search of fame and fortune. Artists can sign up for an account and upload their music to this website. The fun part lies in the promotion. If you can get members (called “Believers”) to invest in your music by purchasing a “part” (US$10 each) and raise more than US$50,000 (5,000 Parts sold), SellaBand will get you a producer (real ones who worked with big names like Nelly, Tori Amos, Manic Street Preachers and more), an agent and a recording session in a real studio.
Pros: For artists, it’s a chance to create a fan base before you even sell your first CD. For music lovers, it’s a chance to support your favorite band and push them to the top.
Cons: You can get free music, but only the stuff no one else has heard of before.
For straight-to-the-point music reviews and fresh-off-the-mixing-table downloads, no one does it better than bloggers.
www.musicslut.blogspot.com
Unlike whores, sluts do it for free! Music Slut gives you free music in every blog post, with a little background and a write up on the artist.
www.rcrdlbl.com
Legitimate record labels team up to give fans free MP3s, thus the name RCRDLBL. A great place to dig up unreleased tracks and minute-by-minute music news.
www.fatplanet.com.au/blog
With its fat selection of music from around the world, Fat Planet takes you to unusual destinations, from the Caribbean to Iceland. Yes, free MP3s are provided.
www.pitchforkmedia.com
Free music is only just one of PitchFork’s fortes. Their extensive list of reviews and features can educate you on what’s hot and what’s not in the music world.

FIRST BASE
DJ EUROTRAXX's Secret Megamixx
German project from 1995. Band members were a female vocalist Tina Safrany (went by the stage name of Victoria) and rapper MC Flash. Behind the group was band's fantastic producer, Mike Wonder AKA "DJ Wondermike" who's credits include remixes for various artists. Back in 1995 group released their first single on BMG (Germany) entitled "Love is Paradise". This vocally and instrumentally brilliant track did not make much of a stir and for the most part left unknown. In January 1996 the song was released by BMG (Canada) on a CD compilation called CLUB CUTZ 7, instantly becoming a mega hit. FIRST BASE also recorded other songs such as "Can You Keep A Secret", "Heavenly", "Follow Me" and "High Energy". All of them but "High Energy" were released as singles or extended singles.

Title: The Best Hits Collection
Artist: DJ RAD
Label: EQ Music (Singapore) / Canada
Style: VOCAL TRANCE / CLUB TECHNO
I have to admit I am impressed by releases from Singapore-based EQ MUSIC. These guys have that fifth sense what is good in DANCE genre. Tracks they are licensing are not always coming from well established artists and DJs, yet the quality of music is superb. This is the case with presented album "The Best Hits Collection" by less known Polish-born Canadian DJ RAD (RADOSLAW DROBNY). I have to admit this 24 years old DJ is a great find. Highly unlikely you are familiar with is music, however he already released couple of singles on Canadian Ti Amo Records such as "Digital One", "Question Of Time" (with JOEE), "Come Home", "If Tomorrow Never Comes" and "I Am Calling You". He also did remixes for such artists as ORION TOO or JOEE to name the few. "The Best Hits Collection" album consists of two CDs. The first CD contains 11 titles, and the second CD has bonus tracks and extended remixes. DJ RAD's music is based on electronica. With ease he operates synthesizers, drums and other electronic instruments. You will have TECHNO, TRANCE, NRG, both on cheesy and fully professonal and original sides. The first CD starts with VOCAL TRANCE tune "Come Home". Originally released as a single back in 2003 became a huge hit in Asia. Hot and hard tune that run the gamut from steamy NRG sound to soaring VOCAL TRANCE. There are several tunes in this style such as "Round And Round", "I'm Calling You" or "If Tomorrow Never Comes" to name just few. With "Get Down Everybody" he is shifting more into ACID TECHNO with lotsa drums and bass. This is a galloping club tune, a bit generic for my taste, but doing great on dance floor. TECHNO style also dominates in "Turbulence". Yeah. Title of this tune sorta indicates it. This one is gearing up toward more club oriented crowd. This trend is sustained in "Northern Lights" to please the crowd. Some nice big synths in this one delivering spacey touch. Top-notch keyboard works in this one. Second CD gives you ultimate club experience. You will find extended mixes of many tunes from first CD. Good catch for DJs. I've been told by Europemusic.com, internet store carrying this album that they have sold hunderds of copies of this release. You really have to hurry up, because you might be too late. Taken together this album is generic and cheesy, yet great DANCE catch. Not exactly the most ambitious trip I have seen, but music is extremely catchy. Once you will start listening to it, you will get attached. Guaranteed. I have prepared mix containing 8 tunes taken from both CDs. I would like to warn you though. I have selected rather generic tunes from this release, but there are more to listen to. So take is with grain of salt. After listening, hurry to get it. The clock is ticking.

Online streaming music startups are in one very sorry place. On demand streaming rates range from .4 cents to 1 cent per stream - this is what the startups pay to the labels every time they play a song for a user. Add bandwidth and storage costs on top of that, which aren’t trivial for services that want to stream music quickly on demand. The result is hundreds of millions of dollars flowing from venture funds to startups to labels. Little of it makes its way to artists, and advertising revenues only cover a tiny portion of the fees.
The labels don’t care if the startups make money, lose money or go out of business. All they want is to make enough money to extend the ultimate surrender date as long as possible. That’s when we’ll finally see the economic reality dictated by the Internet impose itself irrevocably on the music industry. Unless draconian laws are created and enforced that put people in jail, or worse, for file sharing. And even that probably won’t work.
Anyway, these crazy economics are making the music startups skittish. MySpace Music, the biggest player in this space, may be spending $2 million or more per week to the music labels based on their own statistics that they’re streaming over a billion songs a week. Their streaming rate is likely to be the best in the industry, and it almost certainly isn’t lower than .4 cents per song. There is no way that they’re making that much in advertising revenue.
The hope is that downloads, ticket sales, merchandise and ring tones will make up the difference, but what we’re hearing is that very little incremental revenue is being made from these other revenue sources.
That means there’s no chance for these startups to work until the labels reduce, significantly, the streaming rates they’re charging. Or agree to radically different business models. There’s no sign that is happening any time soon.
These crazy economics are making startups do odd things. I emailed one startup recently to suggest a post here on TechCrunch noting that they seem to be doing well - recent setbacks with partners didn’t hurt traffic as much as it may have, and I wanted to note that. The startup flat out asked me not to post, because they didn’t want positive press to impact their negotiations with labels. They had to present as desperate a situation as possible.
Read that again: streaming music startups don’t want more people using their service, because they lose money from every one of them, and the perceived success from having more users makes it harder for them to plead with the labels to give them better deals.
Then there’s imeem. A few days ago I had multiple conversations with the startup around rumors that they owed significant amounts of money to the labels that they couldn’t pay, and that they had failed to raise money or sell themselves. Not much information was shared, other than to say that the rumored $30 million owed to labels was too high. Now they tell VentureBeat that the number is in the single digit millions.
Whatever the number - $30 million or $1 million - imeem can’t pay it. Their business model doesn’t work and it is going to continue to not work until the labels let it work. And they aren’t going to be doing that any time soon.
Big Music Doesn’t Like Streaming Music
The big music labels don’t like streaming music because it doesn’t help them offset declining CD sales, and the evidence now suggests that streaming doesn’t lead to music downloads. Everything we’re hearing says that the labels would like to see streaming music startups just go away for now so that they can focus on maximizing paid downloads and extend that ultimate surrender date.
So when you hear about labels renegotiating streaming deals to help out music startups, be skeptical. They’re likely lowering the rates from 1 cent down to something closer to .4 cents per stream. And all that means is that these startups will bleed a little slower. But they’re still going to go out of business, because the venture firms are done investing in them.
Imeem, the free streaming music site backed by Sequoia Capital, Warner Music and other prominent investors, is rumored to be in serious trouble.
Music insiders are saying a shutdown of the company is imminent after a failed attempt to sell the company or raise more cash. A spokesperson flatly denied the shutdown rumors today, but confirmed that the company layed off staff last week (six people from a staff of around 70). He wouldn’t comment on funding or sale rumors, although plenty of potential buyers tell us they’ve been pitched to buy the company over the last year.
The “problem” with Imeem, like all streaming music services, is that they have to pay a flat rate per stream to the music labels that’s hard to cover with advertising alone. Some companies pay as much as $0.01 per stream, which doesn’t seem like a lot - but at volume it’s crushing, particularly in a down advertising market.
One source tells us that Imeem owes the labels as much as $30 million to date with no hope of paying any of it. Imeem says that is “extremely innacurate,” but confirms that they are playing “in excess of a billion songs and videos per month.”
Online music is a tricky business, where rabid users can actually quickly put you out of business simply by listening to too much music. Imeem says they’re refocusing their efforts on additional revenue streams, such as paid downloads, tickets and ring tones. One new feature allows users to download entire playlists for a fee with the click of the button, which is sure to be popular. The big question is whether that will be enough to make the business even remotely profitable.
This is one tough company that has reinvented itself more than once to find a way to profitability and success. I wouldn’t necessarily bet against them. But the clock is ticking on this startup.
