The concert was pretty awesome. Stewart Copeland was especially outstanding.
Ooh you were there too? Where were you seated?
I was on my feet the whole time.
I hope this isn't for real...
Possibly an even hotter talking point than The Police’s performance on Monday night involved a fan, an overzealous security guard and a drumstick.
Dave Tan (picture), lead singer of local rock band Electrico, was one of the lucky audience members who caught one of Stewart Copeland’s mallets when he flung them out to the sea of adoring fans at the rear of the stage.
“I grabbed it and everyone was happy, cheering and jealous, I guess,” said 31-year old Tan (picture). “Then a couple of minutes later, this auxiliary police guy came up and asked me to return the stick. I was in shock that he was even asking me.
“He just said: ‘Just give it to me, don’t make things difficult’. But instead of giving it back to the band’s crew, he just chucked it over the balcony like a piece of junk!
“If there was a clear directive, he should have stopped me the moment I got it, and not waited so long before taking it back.
“He destroyed the magic of rock concerts for me.”
According to Universal Music’s executive, Salina Abdullah, “it is normally etiquette for musicians to throw things like drumsticks or plectrums for the fans”.
“I don’t think that directive came from the band, it’s a bit weird.” Alastair Hunt of Lushington Entertainments, who organised the show, said that this sort of thing “normally doesn’t happen”.
