  Sebastian Teo and Steve Chia have been in the party for many many years (contested in elections in 2001, 2006 and 2011 ) and Steve Chia was also an NCMP before.  He was also the ex-Secretary General.  Wheras Hazel Poa only joined in 2011.  She also happened to have worked in the Prime Ministers Office before and therefore does not seem like a right person to lead an opposition party.

  My guess (although I am not sure about it) is Hazel Poa made the decsion as acting-Secretary General herself.  It wasn't the CEC's decision not to contest in Macpherson.

  Following the dissolving of parliament, President of Singapore, Mr Tony Tan Keng Yam issued the writ of election at 4 pm today, that the Nomination Day will be held on 1st September 2015, Tuesday.

  Secretary General of People’s Action Party, Lee Hsien Loong has announced on his facebook page that the Polling Day will be on 11th September 2015, Friday. Meaning 10th September 2015, Thursday would be the Cooling Off Day.

  The parliament was just dissolved by Mr Tan at 3pm.

  This will be the 13th General Election to be held in Singapore.

  

  A total of 13 Single Member Constituency and 16 Group Representation Constituency would be contested in the upcoming General Election with a total of  89 Parliamentary seats up for grabs.

  10 political parties will be taking part in the election and there is expected to be no walkovers.

  There are currently 3 constituencies held by the opposition Workers’ Party.

  The parliament is dissolved exactly one month after the Electoral Boundary Review Committee released the modified electoral map on 24 July.

  The office of President Tony Tan Keng Yam has released the Writ of Elections at 4PM today, in which he declared that nominations for political candidates would be held on 1st September. In the same hour, the Elections Department of Singapore also released its Press Release on General Elections 2015, which confirmed that polling day would be held on 11th September.

  The returning officer for GE2015 will be Mr Ng Wai Choong, CEO of the Energy Market Authority.

  Potential candidates will need to pick up their nomination papers from the office of the Returning Officer at Elections Department, 11 Prinsep Link, Singapore 187949, between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. from Monday to Friday and between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Saturday. These papers would have to be filed with the Elections Department at selected Nomination Places between 11 a.m. and 12 noon on Nomination Day.

  Election deposits per candidate will be fixed at $14,500, or 8% of the total allowances payable to a Member of Parliament in the preceding calendar year.

  On 11th September (Friday), Singaporeans would be granted a public holiday to cast their vote.

  12 sept last day of 7th month.  Quite a number grassroot pray pray  7th month.  12 sept grassroot busy pray pray last day 7th month may affect their help in polling stations.

He says he plans to contest in Bukit Panjang SMC as an independent. "It's my interest," he says. If elected, he hopes to speak up about transport issues.

  Mr Shirwin Eu is going to lose his deposit fighting against SDP and PAP.

  So far in the history of Singapore elections, no independent candidate has ever won.

  The most respectable independent candidate in history of Singapore elections is Mr Chia Shi Teck who was the founder of public listed company He-She Holdings (that employed hundreds of Singaporeans at that time), was good enough to make it to parliament as Nominated Member of Parliament and frequently appeared on TV.  After serving in parliament, he got into a 4 corner fight and only managed 14.1% in CCK in 1997.

  So Mr Shirwin Eu is very likely going to lose his deposit.

  Names and numbers very little effects one.

  Like Mr Desmond Lim secured 168 ( ä¸€è·¯å�‘) votes in 2013 by-election in Punggol East.  I doubt he Huat all the way after the by-election.  He started off by losing his deposit in 2013.

  Campaigning is also no joke business, need to do a lot of things.  Therefore political party support is needed.  A lot of things need to be done and most likely an independent candidate cannot handle alone unless he has a lot of money to employ people to work for him.

  One example is Goh Meng Seng's brother worked until he died in the 2011 elections ( https://sg.news.yahoo.com/elder-brother-of-nsp-chief-dies-of-heart-attack.html ).
