Many people will cheer for the opp.

This elections is different. =)

1991, 61%, first election lead by SM Goh
1997, 65%
2001, 75%
2006, 66%, first election lead by PM
The reason for the 75% in 2001, was due to the election held less than 2 months after the US 911 incident, the uncertainty of the future play a big factor.
This time even with the new citizens, I don't think they can get 70%, considering the ground is not sweet now.

1) Minimum downpayment plan of 30% car's value, which means maximum loan banks can give is 70%.This can be effected via legislation.
2) Only those with income above $30,000 p.a. can secure loans for cars.....just like the credit card system. Or if one does not meet that income value, put down a collateral that is three-quarters the car's value.
3) Increase MRT frequencies so that it becomes less packed and give tax rebates or incentives to people who give up driving.
4) Impose higher road taxes for households that have high car to individual ratios. Maybe 4 cars in a household of 4 people can be considered in that category.
30% of a car value is abt $10,000 - $12,000 in reality, you've forgotten the current car prices is incl of COE (In fact COE price takes up 1/2 of the smaller car price). As like downpayment for house, some ppl can find a way to fork for it.
$30,000 pa?? Works out to be $2500 per mth.
How sure you can resolve MRT packness when everyone is going to work or heading home at the same peak within peak timing? Just when ppl accuse e PAP of dreaming, this part is a dream as well. Made worst is how the MRT is routed thks to physical issues like you can't have MRT line across the central catchment area.
Tat's why till to tis day I dunno which scholar came with the idea of starting pri/ sec sch later, ends up e kids are squeezing with ppl heading to work.
Then there's ppl who will die die need a car like those salesman doing retailing/ distribution.
4 cars in household of 4??? How much parking lot can you provide?? The money to build additional car parks for these? As far as I know, the current ratio of no of units to parking lot is less than 1:1 for HDB car parks.
2/3 sounds too sweet to me
