at the end of the day, its still the question of affordability .. they need to resolve the income disparity issues against ideal dream plans for singapore....
it pays no further to push further if u cannot sustain the present...greater participation from the ground is necessary
Aim of public housing should be to provide homes at a reasonable price that a working class person can afford.
Has that failed?
If failed then get rid of the PAP. Vote them out.
Seem like pap shut off their listening ears.
They bend on strictly follow their policies.

People keep on voting for them; open ear, close ear still get to be in power, still the pay is in millions, so they stopped listening.
Only every 5 years come out throw out some money and talk some cock.
You are right.
Once every 5 years, they then listen...but too late liao.

actually how they want to tackle MBT is can use the HDB fig...
Seriously w/ stagnant wages, tat kind of 'affordability' is a sure liability towards retirement.
Pity the youngsters these days. Affordability is no as important as asset "enhancement" aka toxic asset.
Dun need to whack so much one.
The fig itself is saying 'counter me'
sometimes I find it sad
ppl still buy $1200 per month figure is affordable. Few ppl would bother to realise it takes 22 years to settle that net housing price.
As like aging illness, you'll only realise when you grow old of believing in higher property prices is good
It take more than 15 yr of housing loan.
And every month you need to pay a certain amount of money you loan from bank.
Can the govt ensure that the young couple be able to stay employ and pay the loan?
Assuming the couple buy the new flat at the age of 25. + 15yr loan = 40 yr old +.

Yes agreed.
Beside housing loan (more than 20 yrs), there are other expenses coming along the way: babies, kids, schools, etc...
Can a couple afford?
"(wp's proposals) would devalue the asset" and "affordable" are oxymorons. Once again, a demonstration of PAP's "have your cake and eat it" mindset.

Devalue or not not devalue, the basic principle of public housing is for your family to live in, makes no difference if it's a million dollars or $1, you can't sell it and you can only have one.
So what if your HDB is worth $1 million?
This is the same principle with CPF, you can see the money and feel good about it, but you can never touch it.
It's just a feel good factor for those that have it and a lifetime of mortgage debt to service for new home buyers.
But seriously, the money SLA gets from land sales to HDB, it just goes into their coffers and Singaporeans end up with mountains of debt to pay.
Do they redistribute these capital gains to help the poor?
This PAP is really hopeless.
I think the problems of Singapore can be solved.
But they cannot be solved by the PAP.
They will never move an inch to solve them.
All of them must be rejected. All of them must be voted out.
For the sake of the future of Singapore, the PAP must be voted out.
How many times must I tell you people?
HDB flats are affordable.
All this talk about having money for retirement, paying for your kid's university education next time is all irrelevant to the people at the top.
Really.

No need for debate.
HDB value go up so what? It's just paper nia
Unless you hv somewhere else to stay, I really don't care if it goes up or down
Plus now to stop profiteering (it's ok if gov earn but not commoners) they also take some cut of the "profit" when you sell right before you buy a new flat (not sure how it works but something along those lines)
end up I also gotta cough out more property tax

By paying more taxes, it makes you feel rich.
Right?
Just like looking at your cpf statement.

For existing home owners, like myself yes, it is not an issue. I fear if I want to have 2-3 children. Their future homes may not be really good for family building.
Worse, they have to pay a loan that need them to work 40-50 years.

Why do you think most couples these days rather not have kids

Have just one.
So next time, you can at least give your kid your existing flat to live or to sell away.
