On top of the strategies I previously proposed for the 2006 election and election tips for Singaporeans, here are some other things the opposition should do for the upcoming election:
1. Engage the people in issues, not the PAP. The Pappies will try to sidestep the issues and get LKY (or whoever) to badmouth opposition candidates in an attempt to destroy them. Do not stoop to their level and fall into their trap. Making snide remarks in retaliation may help you to score political points, but if the litigious LKY gets on your back, you may have to pay a heavy political price.
2. Draw up a scorecard illustrating the promises made by the PAP that were delivered/not delivered since the last election. Print lots of these and use them as campaign flyers, posters, etc. If printing cost is a concern, convert the material into digital file (PDF, ppt, Word, jpeg - whichever suits your purpose) and make it available for download. Put it on Facebook, blogs, forums, etc. But don't just end there. State how the opposition can (or plan to) help and what the people can do to hold the PAP accountable.
3. Have 3-corner fights in weak single-seat wards. Forget about alliance. It's not gonna happen. Having three or more opposition candidates to contest a ward not only serves to spread the votes thin, but through a freak result, may end up sending an opposition candidate into parliament. This alone is enough cause for concern that the ruling party may have to deploy additional resources to defend the incumbent. The opposition can stretch the PAP's resources further by burning the backyard of key appointment holders (i.e. ministers) - see previous post on 2006 election strategies.
4. WP's Low Thia Khiang should step out of his comfort zone and lead a GRC.
5. SDP should sacrifice itself and form a suicidal team to challenge the PM in his ward. Bitter pill? If you really want to serve the people, swallow it.

Let me give you all a hypothetical situation.
There are 10 SMCs in total.
Only 1 SMC is contested and an opposition party wins it with a 55% vote total.
The incumbent party, by virtue of all the other 9 walkovers wins the elections (based on majority seats in Parliament).
But when the election ends, the newspaper will report that the opposition won 55% (majority) of all total votes cast but does not become the new government.
Will that day come?

GE: Electoral boundary changes should help contesting parties: PM Lee
Posted: 25 February 2011 1426 hrsSINGAPORE: Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong said the changes to Singapore's electoral map should lower the hurdle for parties intending to contest the elections.
He said the changes made known by the Electoral Boundaries Review Committee on February 24 have demarcated new constituency boundaries in accordance with the guidelines which he announced in Parliament in May 2009.
Mr Lee said the average size of Group Representation Constituencies (GRCs) has been brought down to five, while the number of six-member GRCs has been reduced and the number of Single Member Constituencies increased to 12.
"Many incumbent MPs will be affected by the boundary changes. Whichever way the boundaries are drawn, PAP MPs and candidates will do their best to serve the voters, and to win their support in the next elections," said Mr Lee.
Mr Lee made these comments in response to media queries.

Reform Party has been weakened significantly with the exodus of at least 20 members.
RP KJ and Chiam See Tong are generally not considered a strong team in the views of the West Coast GRC residents.
They will probably get 30% to 40% of the votes or may be even less.

GE: Electoral boundary redraw "not critical factor"
Posted: 27 February 2011 1247 hrsSINGAPORE: Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong has said the re-drawing of Singapore's electoral boundaries is not a critical factor for the coming General Election.
He said the most important factor would be the quality of the candidates being fielded and the reputation of the political party.
Speaking to the media after launching the Marine Parade Town Renewal Programme on Sunday, Mr Goh said it is important to focus on the people serving the area, no matter how the boundaries are drawn.
He added that the changes "disadvantaged" the People's Action Party (PAP) more than the opposition candidates.
He cited the Kaki Bukit area as an example, saying one portion has now gone to Aljunied GRC while another portion remains with Marine Parade GRC.
As a result of this, the PAP branch in Kaki Bukit would be affected. A new branch will have to be set up in the area.
Asked about his preferred date for the General Election, Mr Goh replied that he prefers it to be "before July".

High HDB Prices... lots of greedy people sold their HDB flats and moved to another estate etc....
Then not forgetting new voters - youngsters aged 21-25.... and also those who missed the last one and are getting a chance to vote... 26 - 30.... or even older.... new citizens...
Old people dying etc..
Not forgetting swing votes...
So ultimately the vote might just have shifted elsewhere.... hard to check.. frankly speaking... -

Based on "To build a democratic society". It is my right to exercise as a Singaporean to vote for the party I choose to. Singapore's success is owned to PAP government which I cannot deny and Singapore is not owned by PAP.
