alot of women from myanmar, vietnam, thailand, china, korea, russia et al, take advantage of the short term visa to come here do illegal things, like prostitution, begging, selling of illegal cigarettes.
the government policy has failed in this respect. originally it was meant to encourage trade among ASEAN countries, but it has backfired. can u believe foreigners from ASEAN countries come here to beg for a living, beg for spore dollar and go back to their home country exchanged for their own currency. no way will I vote for PAP for their failed policies.
dude.. show me how you can separate the "bad" from the correct traveller...
then come back and kpkb about this

So what are you saying? Ban short-term visas to end all these 'social ills'?
Then what about real businessmen who, you know, want to come over on a short-term basis to do business and pump money into the economy?
And what if they want to bring their wives over for a few months?
And what about tourists who genuinely want to stay here for a slightly longer period?
And what about the parents of foreign students who want to come over for a while to stay with their kids for a few months?
And what about medical tourists who want to come here to get treatment in local private hospitals?
not ban, but make it more difficult for those beggars, illegal peddlars and prostitutes to come over and take advantage of the short term visas.
I propose making a deposit of 10k refundable when they go back to their own country for a 6 months visa. it will be forfeited if they are charged of crimes.

Like Bear has said....
..... how do you want to weed them all out from, say, genuine tourists who want to stay for a longer period of time?

probably you refer to the previous ways that they need to show a certain sum of money to the immigration before they can enter Sg.

tourists visa of 2 weeks is fine, but 6 months is another story. why would a tourist need a 6 months visa for a small country in singapore?

Because it is a farking standard procedure across most (Within ASEAN??) countries.
For Malaysia case, I think I used to get a visit pass of 1 month but back then I was 10 years old. (That was because of a school did a JB tour for 1 farkin day only, like morning to 8pm night)
