SINGAPORE: Senior
Minister of State for National Development and Education Grace Fu said
she was "more than happy" to stand for election in a single ward should
her party require her to.
She added she had been studying and
learning from more experienced party members in preparation for the
upcoming General Election.
Ms Fu, who's in the Jurong GRC, was
asked about the speculation that she would be contesting in a single
member constituency (SMC).
The PAP team in Jurong GRC was
uncontested in the 2006 General Election.
Ms Fu said: "We are
told to expect the unexpected. So we can be fielded, we may not be
fielded.
"We may be fielded in an SMC, we may be fielded in a
GRC. Whether we are fielded in an SMC or we're fielded in a GRC, we have
to expect the instruction from the party".
Ms Fu, who spoke to
reporters on the sidelines of a community event on Sunday morning,
joined grassroots leaders and residents in an annual cleanup of Yuhua
estate.
She also planted a tree to celebrate Clean and Green
Singapore.
At the event, Ms Fu also announced that four blocks in
the estate would be getting lift upgrading.
They are blocks
209, 210, 211 and 214 Jurong East Street 21.
Ms Fu said the Yuhua
estate was relatively old, having been built in 1982. She added that
there were many elderly residents in the area.
As such, the lift
upgrading programme would be beneficial to the elderly who are less
mobile.

It is funny that there are a few individuals that think that they can handle single ward competition.
They even announced to the press that they can take up the challenge.
It is like asking a recruit to fight the Iraq war.
Hope they enjoy the ride.
What if she lost? Will she still be a minister?
LPG really pull the pple's votes to her.
Old pple are very contented and simple heart.
So long you help them willing, they will vote for you.
But not young pple or new estates.
Considering that most of these individuals are not walking the ground and fed with feel good but inaccurate ground sentiments, they will have a surprise of their life.
They are not being challenged since their appointment and will not be able to provide any debate if they are put to test.
So, how are they going to fight ?
It is strange that they are asking for a fight when they are not prepared.
Unless their opponents are weak, then they stand some chance.
True.
They already feel that their opposition members poses no threat to them at all.
And have some leads that their opposition members are still fighting among themselves.
Supposing she lost........will she get kick out from the govt?
If the individual is deemed useful by the present gang, the person will be put in as a gang to walkover.
Or else the individual have to retired to some created cushy job in Ah Kong company.
I dun think the individual will be put to the test and most of them just saying it to score some bonus points.
Most of them are too comfortable in their tower and will not be able to take the hardship in shaking the fishy hands of the local.
They will not be able to defend against the new generation.
Just look at Mr Peanut.
So it is just a gimmick/propoganda from pap.
To show to the pple that many still favour them?
It is just a empty war cry.
Most of them did not even argue in their previous campaign.
You cannot expect them to swim now.
The people know how good they are.
As to whether they are still getting the people support, they will find out themselves very soon.
When you choose to hide and ignore a hole in the dam, prepare to be sweep away when the dam collapsed.
hahaha...stand behind the pple and push them off the cliff and ran away.
Grace Fu lose already.........change name to...........Grace Fuck..........
Well take a look in this way, Grace is a minister. So, you cant have a cry-baby politican (Read: Politican, not minister). Just like you dont want a cry baby / this cannot do and that will die one as the leader in your camp / NS / project team etc.
So, you cannot expect like "Mr / Ms XXX: I would never want to contest in SMC" (And the reason is because ...... [Insert your reasoning apart of the fear on losing the election])
If you say like that, you are going to boot out from the party, because
1) You do not want an SMC, you abandon SMC voters
2) Even if in charge of a GRC like Sembawang, Jurong or even Marine Parade, if tio contest, then the poll result will swing towards opposition because most people wont trust this politican right? If it is a walkover like Tanjong Pagar, then interestingly, that people will still talk bad things behind. Again, what if a long traditional walkover GRC tio contest?
That will be interestng to see her contesting in sme.
And opposition would like love to challenge her.
These individual are, the most, administrators and not politician.
As to whether these individuals are being respected and trusted, I dun think any one care.
These individuals and their opponents are the same as they only appear before the big day and MIA after the big day.
When sudden events happened, they are no where to be seen.
These elections seem to suggest a lot of SMCs... GRC maybe left two or three only....
May be smaller GRCs of 3 or 4.

Sacrifice a few small SMCs and hope no GRCs fall into opposition hands.
They must be panicking now at the thought of losing a few GRCs to the opposition.
Or maybe the incumbent might spring a surprise and win all seats.
If that happens, you can be sure a lot of people will be packing their bags to head for the exit.

And at the same time, a lot of foreigners will be coming in to replace them.
In the end, we are still screwed by PAP.
