Reduce National Service to 1 year or less with immediate effect!
1)Unfair to males as compared to females who are going to university would have continuity and head-start. Graduate females would also have headstart in working career.
2)Do away "Command Schools" for NS conscripts. Instead give opportunities for people who wish to sign on as a regular career the chance to become officers and segeants. NS conscripts be men only.
3)Maximum 2 months BMT, 3 months vocational training, and the remaining 5 months unit attachment. Refresher training during reservist in-camp training.
The above mentioned are excellent proposals and recommended to be implemented with immediate effect!

Nah, I'd rather go through the 2 years full, can learn a lot more things that you can't learn in uni (the leadership and survival skills part, not the take weapon 'bang bang', chiong sua part), and still be able to apply to society.
For point 1 that you've mentioned, there are a lot of males who still get well-paying jobs despite the 2-year delay; It's all about your ability (and of course, the availability of the job lah, but you'll still be fighting for it with many other hopefuls that aren't your age, so it doesn't really make a difference if NS duration was reduced).
Besides, we still get paid during NS. Some may see it as a form of 'financial assistance' from the government, for them to earn sufficient allowance for further studies and whatnot (not to mention the $3000 bonus after we ORD)
AND, imagine what the 'lao jiaos' who had 'suffered' throughout NS would say if we had a reduction in NS duration; they would also have to right to say that "it's not fair".
However, politics are ever-changing, so I don't know what will be happening in the future. For all you know, some people in the government may concur with what you've suggested and actually modified NS ._.

so what about guys who have completed their ns? or even their reservist? fair for them? you must be one guy that havent went into army and is shivering right now that you are going to serve ur 2 yrs ns.

Well, after what our ancestors saw of the British Army attempting to protect Singapore from the Japs, I don't think the country would agree on hiring mercenaries...
Anyway, it's just 2 years of full-time NS + Reservist training until 40-50 years old for civilians like us leh, imagine how it would be like as a regular...
What makes you resent NS that much?

Reform was hinting at cuts to NS liability in its manifesto earlier on.

if like that cfm alot of manpower shortages -.-" and possibly there may be problems with finding 'professionals' also. [didnt mention soldier as among those who want a career, many do not want something that has got to do with the typical soldier stuff/routines in BMT]
as for the reform, 1.5 years would be quite bare already.

There wun be manpower shortages... in my unit last time, one DXO has 3 NSFs in her charge... she is so lazy until she doesnt have to walk... she will just call her NSF (maid)... "Joseph, coffee!"

Although females get a head start in the working world, that doesn't necessarily make them any better at working.
If the above proposals are ever accepted, then below are some of the proposals that should go with it:
1) Abolish annual IPPT
2) Cut reservist to 5 years from 10, and make them all high key, and increase the number of days they can call you up a year from 40 to 60 days, and make all ICTs high key, meaning they should last in excess of 2 weeks.
3) For active NSmen, they should be entitled to $12000 in annual income tax relief to the end of their cycle, up from $3000, on the basis they have done their ICT for that financial year, otherwise the $1500 still applies.
There, I am satisfied now.

Every true blue abled male sinkie have to waste 2 years of life to do something that will never happen, just lan lan suck thumb do.

Think for the next generations of our boys, they will be the worst hit in future. Unable to complete with the foreigners will make them even harder to survive in Spore.
I also completed 2 yrs of ns. Learn what? Keng lor, act blur lor.

during my 2 years, i think my mind went a little slow, slight mental retardation. doing same things everyday, no critical thinking(maybe only thinking about kenging), come out go back study but feel like quite stupid, like windows 7 os downgrade to windows 95
