Temasek Review, 1 October 2010
Former PAP minister Dr Lee Boon Yang has decided to retire from
politics for good and will not be contesting in the next general
election.
The 63 year old veterinarian first enter politics in 1984 as MP of Jalan Besar ward which has since be “expanded” to form a GRC.
He claimed that he joined politics to “serve” the people:
“When I entered politics, it was not a career move. Politics is about serving the people and helping people to improve their life and realising their dreams.”
Dr Lee is the second PAP heavyweight to retire in the next general election, the other being former transport minister Yeo Cheow Tong. He will be joining Keppel Corporation to sit on its board of directors after leaving politics, a standard “exit route” for former PAP ministers to keep their mouths shut in “retirement” like former Deputy Prime Minister Tony Tan who is now the Chairman of Singapore Press Holdings.
While the younger ministers have retired to make way for new leaders, there are no signs if PAP strongman Lee Kuan Yew is going to retire anytime soon.
At 87 years of age, Lee is probably the world’s oldest living minister and MP. Though he admitted he is not doing much work lately except “forecasting”, he costs Singapore taxpayers more than $3 million dollars a year.
Lee has been dropping subtly to the press recently that he is not quite ready to retire. He quipped famously that he will “decline” if he stops working.
Soon
after returning from a tour of Russia and Ukraine, Lee had a fall. He
was admitted to SGH on Wednesday for a chest infection. His current
status remains unknown.

They have a beautiful lady.....: Lily Neo....last autumn gatherine, I shake hand with her...and she also sang chinese, hokkien and malay songs for the old folks.
With all that retiring and deaths.... I think PAP will more or less be filling a lot of new candidates in this time round.
Might be the toughest elections for PAP since independence, especially with rising unhappiness due to foreigners and the bread and butter issues.

Indeed we are having too many businessmen candidates in the parliament. Hopefully they can fill in more Professionals, Managers, Executives and workers of different walks in life.... instead of Businessmen.

I, 200%, agreed!
They must have the heart and soul to serve the pple.
And not wayang wayang to show pple they serve you.
Is that really hard to find those pple?
Or pap just only see their paper and experiences only?
Should the pap change their policy (recruitment for nmp)?

PAP is too strong for its own good, many join for the power and money for themselves not to serve the people.
May be they should split.

LKY is too strong.....
Who dares to split, seriously speaking.
I think you will get a worst fate than the opposition.
When Lee Boon Yang quit MICA, it is a sign telling us he will not contest in coming election.
After election, Lui Tuck Yew will officially become the minister for MICA.

That is what pple scare of. isnt it?
They know how to suck out money from pple, then we are done man!
But for opposition party, I really cant find any good one to post a serious challenge.

If you think only ruling party have good candidates, think again. They may be professional but without ethics. They mess too much.
A well learned person with bad intent is worst than an illiterate one.
LOL..
the ruler was born in the year 1923...a hundred years would be 2023 which is about 12 by end of the year....
not many could cross the 100 mark....
that implies that real political change could only be taking place about that time onwards....whoever wants to take over is not easy at all....
I want to see what happens when the incumbent wins all seats in Parliament.
Interesting to see what kinds of policies they will come up with.

She has to, they are who will vote for her if their area is contested. And because of this fact, and this fact alone, she will never lose.
