Electricity tariffs for Jul to Sep 2016 to rise by 9.2%: SP Services
SINGAPORE: The electricity tariffs for the third quarter of 2016 will increase by an average of 9.2 per cent, or 1.59 cents per kilowatt-hour (kWh), compared to the previous quarter.In a press release on Thursday (Jun 30), SP Services said that this was largely due to the cost of natural gas for electricity generation, which rose by 26 per cent compared to second quarter 2016. It was partly offset by lower non-fuel costs, notwithstanding an increase in Market Support Services fee to meet higher market system and development costs, it added.Electricity tariff for households will increase from 17.68 to 19.27 cents per kWh for Jul 1 to Sep 30 this year, SP Services said. The average monthly bill for families living in 4-room flats is expected to increase by S$6.79.SP Services reviews the electricity tariffs quarterly based on guidelines set by the Energy Market Authority (EMA).
