SINGAPORE: Civil servants in the Republic will receive 1.65 months' worth of bonus at the end of the year. This consists of a 0.65-month variable bonus plus the annual 13th-month bonus, the Public Service Division (PSD) announced on Wednesday (Nov 25).
The PSD announced that the year-end Annual Variable Component (AVC) will amount to 0.65 month, with lower-wage officers receiving an AVC of at least S$1,100. The year-end bonus is down from the 0.8 month given out at the end of 2014, when lower-wage officers received at least S$1,200.
Together with their AVC, civil servants will receive the Non-Pensionable Annual Allowance - commonly known as the 13th-month bonus - of one month, to be paid in December, according to the PSD.
"The Singapore economy grew by 1.9 per cent on a year-on-year basis in the third quarter of 2015, moderating slightly from the 2.0 per cent growth in the second quarter. This brought the GDP growth in the first three quarters of 2015 to 2.2 per cent on a year-on-year basis," PSD said.
"The Ministry of Trade and Industry has forecast that the economy will grow by close to 2.0 per cent for the whole of 2015. Unemployment remained low while total employment growth has continued to slow amidst weaker economic conditions.
"Against this backdrop, civil servants will be paid a year-end AVC of 0.65 month. Low-wage officers will get a minimum year-end AVC of S$1,100. This signals the Government's continued commitment to help low-wage workers."
Around 1,300 civil servants will benefit from the minimum AVC payment of S$1,100. The year-end AVC, including the minimum payment, was decided in consultation with the public sector unions, said the PSD.
