SINGAPORE: More people feel that spending time with their families gives them the most happiness, according to a recent survey conducted by Families for Life, a council that seeks to build strong and resilient families.
The July poll sought to find out what family time means to them and how satisfied they are with the amount of time they get to spend with their families.
According to the survey, which was conducted through Facebook and at various Families for Life events, 71 per cent of the 1,252 respondents felt that spending time with their families makes them the happiest, up four per cent from last year.
People are spending more time with their families - around six to 12 hours on average a week, compared to the two to six hours a week a similar poll conducted last year found.
But only 55 per cent of the respondents are satisfied with the amount of quality time spent with their loved ones, with many citing long working hours and household chores as top reasons for not being able to do so.
The findings were revealed on Sunday afternoon (Sep 6), at the annual Families for Life celebrations at Universal Studios Singapore.
Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong kicked off the celebrations, along with Minister for Social and Family Development Tan Chuan-Jin and MSF's Parliamentary Secretary Low Yen Ling.
Mr Lee unveiled a 3D Family Time installation during the event, which will rove around Singapore over the next few months. The public can take photographs there and pen their thoughts on the importance of strengthening family bonds. The theme this year is "Family time. Precious time".
More than 20,000 people from 2,500 extended families turned up for the two-day event.
