SINGAPORE : Over 10,600 abortions were carried out last year, the lowest number of abortions registered in the last decade.
In 2003, the figure was nearly 12,300.
The majority of the pregnancies were terminated in the first trimester.
These numbers, which comprised Singapore citizens, permanent residents and foreigners, were revealed by Health Minister Gan Kim Yong in response to a parliamentary question by Non-Constituency MP Gerald Giam.
