THIS Star Awards Best Newcomer of 2002 hit the big time playing the kind-hearted but simple-minded Jing Jing in the 2003 hit drama Holland Village.
While she still bags trophies at the Star Awards year after year, Jeanette has not had another breakout hit.
Ms Khoon said:"In her last drama, The Peak, she just wasn't able to emote well for her role. She hasn't improved in her acting. Her dolly voice might be a disadvantage too."
It doesn't help that Jeanette is apparently rather conscious of her image - sources say that she turned down a meaty role in a major production because it required her to seduce an older male character.
Jeanette apparently felt it could be detrimental for her yu nu (jade maiden) image. Said MediaCorp's Mr. Yeo. "She has to be more open to challenges. Like her hairstyle. I don't understand why it's so hard for her to change it. That's why I made her wear hair extensions for her new role in Switched!"
But in a recent interview with Lianhe Zaobao, Jeanette said:"I don't ask to play good girls all the time. In CID, I played a character who was schizophrenic and who hated her father.
In Switched!, my character is spoilt and tried to steal her sister's boyfriend... so you can see that I'm not adverse to playing the bad girl."
Verdict: Unless she changes her bulb, it could be lights out.
