sadly, currently my life is living in the mould set by our gahmen, and trying to achieve that fat pay check to support our otherwise meaningless life in sg.
there's no sg dream to talk about. most singaporeans (that i know) have never travelled out of the region, and they don't seem to think thats a problem. and i think thats a very sad thing. my parents for example, the furthest they've gone is thailand, but they never think about anything beyond.
our gov tells us that our society, nation is more important any individual, and while i don't disagree entirely, does that mean the individual is unimportant?
i despise the lack of social mobility in sg. no matter how well you perform in life, your kids will never be able to fully enjoy it, because if you have big house, you return it to gov after 99yrs, and its value drops every day. cars become worthless after 10. what else can you do? unless you are businessman, and you leave a company to your kids, the only thing you can give them is a good education (which also depends on their own ability).even if you are doctor, you can't give them anything tangible as inheritance.
compare that to the older societies, where families can increase their familial fortunes over generations. that i call real social mobility. to be able to rise to the top of the social castes and be able to STAY there, not get kicked down by the gov every single gen, who then say, work your way up again, because only us men in white deserve to stay at the top.
i guess i'm a runner. i will try to improve myself, and then run out as fast as possible. hopefully with my parents and gf in tow.
