i think depending on how u look at it ba. it's a great reminder or a great excuse to have gathering among your friends or even spend time with your loved ones

It's also a great opportunity to con people into paying more for flowers and food that can be bought any other day.
It's a great time too to emotionally blackmail your partner into making sure you don't feel left out, even though you claim that "every day should be Valentine's Day".

people can choose not to buy but i guess most of the people wanted to do something special on this day for their loved ones. well.. humans are forgetful and they need reminders like days like this to remind them not to take their loved ones for granted.
