Assumption:-

i = √(-1)

√(ab) = √(a) x √(b)

1 + 1 = 1 +1
1 + 1 = 1 + √(1)

Since (-1)*(-1) = 1
1 + √(1) = 1 + √[(-1)(-1)]
1 + √[(-1)(-1)] = 1 + √(-1)*√(-1)

assuming i = √(-1)
1 + √(-1)*√(-1) = 1 + i*i

Since i*i = i²
√(-1)² = -1

Therefore:-

1 + i*i = 1 + i²
1 + i² = 1 - 1

1 + 1 = 1 - 1

Thus:-

1 + 1 = 0
