Some cyclists that I encountered are so damn rude... Me and a few people were walking on a narrow pedestrain walkway then one idiotic cyclist behind us kept 'ringing' us like trying to force us to give way. Mind you, the above mentioned incident did not happen at Tampinese.
I did not give a damn and continued walking slowly... He got no choice but to wait behind me..
Wat would u do if u all were to meet such rude and impatient cyclists?
' This is walking road not cycling road ah !!! '
Why you didnt move?
Please be considerate also to the cyclist.
You said it yourself, it didnt happen in Tampines. Meaning, that area does not have a cycling path. In that situation, a cyclist either have to be on the road, together with cars, trucks, motorbike, and so on, and risk his life and limb, or, he will have to tack on onto the pedestrian path. Why cant you be more considerate ?
If he goes to the road, the drivers will be the ones who will complain.
So, it looks like being a cyclist is like being a pariah, always get discriminated.
Let's imagine that he was not a cyclist for a moment, and that he did not ring the bicycle bell. Lets say he is a pedestrian who said "excuse me" with his mouth. Will you give way to him?
Super kick the cyclist. But anyway if they ring just siam lah, if you ride bicycle you also want cycle fast right. Got ppl there u also not happy rigjt

Consideration has to go both ways. Were the cyclist being considerate when he rang his bell impatiently to force and intimidate pedestrian into giving ways when the pedestrian was supposed to have the rights of way on the pedestrian walkway?
What he should have done on that NARROW walkway was to alight and to push his bicycle. Not to continue cycling on it and sounding the bell at pedestrian, expecting others to give way... Giving way to him might just gave him the flawed idea that he has the rights of way when he dont... It's the attitude that matters. If he had alighted and pushed his bicycle.. I would surely have given way to him if he was to say 'excuse me'. But no way would I give way if he just expects me to give way so that he can conveniently and comfortably carrying on with his cycling... This is so dangerous. What if somebody got knocked down or got injured when the cyclist tried to squeeze through the crowd?

Perhaps i will have reacted the same way if i am in a bad mood, and some annoying cyclist comes and keep ringing his bell. Normally if cyclist rings the bell, just give way . No cyclist will alight and push his bike past you anyway
Then maybe it is more a case of attitude / mannerism.
It is the same, like if a person who walks (pedestrian) is saying "excuse me" nicely, or whether he is saying "excuse me" with loud volume and being pushy.
It is not really whether it is right or not right for a cyclist to be on the pathway.
The problem is....there is no cycling path....
So he either go to the road...or onto the pathway.....but really, both of these scenarios are not optimum.
If I recall correctly, if the pavement is not marked for bicycle use, the rider can be fined for riding on the pavement.
For myself, I would ride on the road with my bike full compliant with LTA/TP rules complete with safety gear. While riding, I would keep as close to the kerb so as not to be a road hog.
Riding on the road is safe if drivers and riders both drive and ride carefully and not "do anything funny" while on the road. I always give way to cyclists when they are cycling close to the kerb but what irks me is that some cyclists act as if they own the road and occupy the whole/half of the lane.
Cyclists can do their part by observing traffic rules and well, drivers can give a little leeway to cyclists. All it takes is a little give and take and the world would be a better place.
Personally, no matter how much you ring the bell if you ride like the pavement is yours, I would refuse to make way. Get off and push if you want to be on the pavement.
Just my 2 cents, please don't flame me. Speaking about how I feel being both a cyclist(road at all times) and a car driver.
I understand you.
Your type is the "professional or semi-professional cyclist" who has complete gear and can cycle fast.
I am just an ordinary amateur cyclist.
I tell you, I feel really vulnerable on the road. Very vulnerable. Especially if some vehicles whizz past and it seem like they almost touch me.
Yes, I know the pedestrians also can have this same sensation when they see cyclists whizz past from behind them.
It's actually not nice for all users. Only good solution is to implement more cycling path. This way, it is better for everyone.
Yes more cycling pth :D and more bball court :D

If its normal conditions, who borthers to wear safety gear for cycling ? If its a road bully, which normally is the case, be prepared to get rammed.
I will jus kick th bike and they like to speed past u without ant bell or even excuse me -.-

Semi-pro bah.. Usually I average about 30+km/h. I using mountain bike on road anyway. I try to stay away from roads whereby there are lots or heavy vehicles.
From experience MOST heavy vehicles and MOST taxis don't give chance even to drivers. So far only had 1 incident where a taxi driver kept trying to squeeze me off the road. As for vehicles "flying" by, I try to anticipate it so that I don't get surprised.
dam i hate pedestrians that walk in a row so nobody can pass them.
if the cyclist is ringing, its more likely he's letting you know that he's right behind you. If he didn't swear right after you refused to move (because you're inconsiderate), then he's just trying to let you know he's behind you. He's a shy guy, easier to ring a bell, then talk.
So move next time, cuz if i was tht cyclist, i wouldve just ran right through you.
Wow u are evil but stil do sth to signal th th person walking first instead of jus dashing is much better (:
lol well thts totally what i meant. I would signal... obviously just running through them is rude. But they totally deserve it, if they continue to ignore me and not move.

The times whereby I hear cyclists ringing their bell is when they are riding crazily on the pavement. But face it, pedestrian pavement is not a place for bikes. No matter how fast people walk, its still slower then a bike.
@TTFU
Its a rule to wear helmet on the road. Never wear will kena fine if TP spot you. Not sure if normal patrol officer will catch you. Headlights and tail lights are mandatory for night cycling, day time I'm not very sure but I have them installed all the time.
But wht if is Old auntie tht had hearing prob ?
No one is gonna wear helmets or gears in normal conditions, as in normal cycling. Not those on the road type. If i am rushing to buy my chicken rice, will i still borther to look for my helmet ? Cyclist can be quite rude with their alarms, same with pedestrian who refuse to give way, plainly looking for trouble.
As long as both give in everything is safe :D

You were right in saying that there was no cycling path. This implies that roads were originally designed (in the case of singapore) for pedestrian and drivers. Not cyclists. It is just like the case of FTs influx into Sg. Should we change our lifestyle to adapt to FTs or the other way round?
I wont insist that cyclist cycle on the main road. I drive too and I must say that I hate cyclist on the road. Just like what you have mentioned, they are actually viewed as pariah by many car drivers.. Especially if they were to hog up an entire lane or worse.. I have seen PRCs and Banglas driving against traffic flow! They were cycling towards me!!
Nobody can have the best of both worlds. By cycling, cyclist already saved a great deal of money (compared to car owners) and time (compared to pedestrians). It is expected of cyclist to be understanding and not invading into the rights of pedestrians like sounding bell aggressively etc... If one day someone were to get killed (maybe elderly) after getting knocked down by cyclist.. This might forced govt to ensure that cyclists cycle only the on main road..
By then cyclists can have a taste of their own medicine... This time they will be honked at by faster moving and larger vehicle (cars, lorry, bus etc)... When that day comes that I shall ask the same cyclist how he felt...
I feel that cyclists should be made to go for official test before they are allowed to cycle in the public.. be it main roads or pedestrian crossings.. (That excludes recreational area that's meant for cycling!). This ensures that they know basic traffic rules and some basic ethics pertaining to cycling..

I think it is rude and aggressive people likeyou that's causing all the conflicts between cyclists and pedestrians.
Try driving on public road okay? Experience how it feels like to have faster moving vehicle honking you and expecting you to give way...
Like what you said.. if you don't give way I think they should just drive over you... Haha..
ya and its cycling that saving this environment.
Also, im not as idiotic as you are. If a car honks at me whilst i am cycling, i would give way. If not the car would have every right to run me over. Imagine that a group of cyclist refusing to give way on the road to a car behind them. Thats like you, you retard.
haha rude and aggresive people... so says the guy who previously posted "high controversial" on highschool dropouts and what should be done to them.
Car drivers don't signal because.....
Later bicycle riders won't ring their bells because...
They will just sneak up and then suddenly zoom past.
