Caltex National Karting Challenge 2007!!

Anyone wanna take part?? We need to get a team of 4 with one reserve!
Registration is $20 per person... Registration ends 9th Sept. And its held from the 5th to 7th Oct, 2007... Prelims on the 5th and 6th, with finals on the 7th, held at East Coast Parkway, Car Park E1, near Ski 360.

CALTEX NATIONAL KARTING CHALLENGE 2007
Date : 5 October – 7 October
Venue : East Coast Park Car Park E1 (Beside Ski360)
Time : 0900-1700hrs
Form up a team of 4 according to the official categories:
(Based on the age of the oldest team member)
Category A: 15-18 yrs old (Registration fee: S$15 per person)
Category B: 19-25 yrs old (Registration fee: S$20 per person)
Category C: 26-35 yrs old (Registration fee: S$25 per person)
Category D: 36 yrs old and above (Registration fee: S$30 per person)
Challenge Schedule
Qualifying rounds will be held on 5 and 6 October 2007 from 0900 – 1700hrs.
The Finals will take place on 7 October 2007 from 0900 – 1700hrs.
Challenge Format
1. Each team will consist of 4 participants karting in relay-style.
2. Each team member will be required to complete a distance of 2.4km (takes approximately 6mins to complete) on the karting track.
3. 1 representative from 6 teams on the track at every slot.
4. Change-over of drivers to take place only at the Pit Stop Area.
Challenge Timing
1. Maximum time allowed for the entire team is 25 minutes.
2. Timing commences when first driver is flagged off and stops when fourth driver returns to start/finishing line within 25 mins.
3. The timing is inclusive of the change-over between drivers at the Pit Stop Area.
4. Timing taken for the individual team will stop once the maximum time limit is reached and any running karts on the track are to return to the Pit Stop Area.
Judging
1. All teams will be ranked accordingly based on the total race distance covered by all team members.
2. Teams will also be ranked according to the total time taken for the team to complete the required race distance.
3. Top 6 teams from each category with the maximum distance covered in the shortest timing will qualify and proceed to compete in the Finals.
4. The team with the fastest overall timing will emerge as Winner of that respective category.
5. Should there be a tie between two teams in the same category with identical total race timing taken or identical race distance covered, the team with the fastest individual lap time will emerge as the Winner of that respective category.
Do strategize amongst yourselves in order to clock in the fastest timing and pit your skills against other teams!

I didn't post this in chit chat cos I tot it would be fun if the diecasters did something else besides just meeting to chat abut diecasts... But you guys must be sure that you'll be free on those dates... 5th to 7th Oct.. there will also be one compulsory briefing to be held sometimes between the 9th of Sept and 5th Oct, don't know when yet...

I've only karted once and my style is pushing the traction to the limit, almost always skidding the kart. You'll find me a valuble additiont to your team. Btw, I can drive if that helps. -

its does not mean he dont welcome u but just that u can intro more abt urself so that u will not feel "stranger" to the regulars in the diecast forum.

Hehe... driving a kart does somewhat differ from driving on normal roads... its good that you've had some experience in karting... Once I confirm the details, I'll inform you guys about it... =)
It's also best that you guys can go visit the site and read up on what will be done and whats going to happen... the info on the site is really quite good...
If more people want to go, maybe we can even get 2 teams to go... =) -

that i know. because karts don't have suspensions so you won't feel the rolling effect. karts also do not have shifts so u can't use clutch to control the cornering(i occassionally heel and toe thru a corner while driving a real car).

Actually I'm more concerned about brake and accelerator modulation... Since the karts have a fixed rear axle, if you brake hard enough, it pretty much works like an E-brake... hard braking will lock the wheels and pretty much throw you into a spin... which is what you'll want to avoid... especially during corners... Same goes for when you suddenly lift off the accelerator, it might cause you to lose control... Basically gradual acceleration is the key..

Well.. the track's gonna be at the East Coast Parkway car park E1... so I'm guessing they haven't really laid out the track yet... They're probably gonna use the fun karts... smaller cc than the older senior karts... the last time they held something like this and used senior karts, the karts got damaged pretty badly... ppl kept trying to overtake at chicanes and collided with each other... the fun karts have a protective loop around the kart to protect the kart against any collisions... so they're safer for both the kart and the driver... -

Relax bro... There's still time for registration... I wanna see if any other ppl are interested... give it until this weekend... the 5th person as reserve is actually optional... so if we can get around 8 ppl, we can send in 2 teams instead... =)
