I've been playing FM 07 for quite some time managing Man U. I am fine with all aspects of the game except that my away form is really lousy. I mean I can lose 5-0 to Aston Villa. I desperately need someone to tell me why or at least how to tinker with my formation.I am playing with a standard 4-4-2 attacking diamond.

That means I change my mentality under team instructions to Defensive? But realistically speaking there is really no reason to do so as my team is far stronger unless you are talking about teams like Chelsea. I really see no reason why i should be thrashed 5-0 by Aston Villa. LOL

Don keep changing your tactics as your players would be confused.
Play direct passing, quick tempo, wide wings and concentrate passing down both wings with wings wide of course, thats like the real life EPL tempo and it will do you good during Champions League matches against other sides, it helped me during EPL matches too -

Make sure your target man has a high "jump" stat in the 17-20 range. That will ensure he will win more headers in the air, and make it easier for him to knock the ball to his own team mates.

u can try fernado gago...gud player...hes a dm..can mid oso...but i put him ar rite..cos my ronaldo and park injured..perform not bad..
oso bought nani...put as amc quite gud..left winger not effective...
btw...rooney and villa pair up godlike...both score more than 25 goals liao....in all competition...oni 3/4 season nia... -

If you have no target man who have good heading abilities, find 1 who have good finishing and dribbling skills and appoint him as target man, then go to team instructions and set target man supply to run to ball. Appoint one playmaker and make sure that playmaker have good creativity, then set him to free role and creativity maximum

You also have to see which defender was assigned to "mark" your target man, kinda easy to see when both sides uses 4-4-2. If the defender has a 20 jump stat, most likely, your target man will not win any headers and the defender marking him will win a lot of headers. And that on the whole may mean you find it hard to score. At least that is my conclusion right now.
P.S: Hey, forum_dude, I know it's your style ah, but if can you not use all capital letters while in this sub-forum? Your nick you use small letters already can one lah. -
I've figured out maybe it's because I'm not use to the new ver. of the game which is more difficult and Man U not as strong. In the past, I will just trash everyone and win the league. Haha.
