"Rate of change", think something like speed, which is the rate of change of distance with respect to time. Car travelling, kicking a ball etc.
Would be nice if you can elaborate more on what exactly you dun know.

Is it A Maths? 2nd order differentiation?
If it is, its more like how fast the change is happening. Ie. How fast the gradient is changing, or how fast the velocity is changing(acceleration).
