How safe is Perth?

Perth is alot safer than SG in my opinion.
At least if you take the public transport like their MRT, people won't even bother to rape you with their minds.
Most people in Perth are warm and friendly compared to people in the Eastern states.

It all depend on your neighbourhood. In city where you University is - you should be safe, as for train it is ok. But from train station to you home - that may be a little too quiet for confort - thus would think better get a family memeber to wait pick you up. -
Perth trains are not safe at night. Esp the train stations on certain lines. (any trains heading east)
Now that the Perth economy is slowing ... we are seeing more idiots and low-lifes causing problems.
Get a reliable car and if you need to study late,
My suggestion is to call university security to escort you to your car.

Hi starry, ran across your posts while searching for info on perth. I am also going over in Feb 09 for my postgrad masters. Doing it at UWA. now trying to settle accom and tickets there....so I am having the same adventure as you. ;)
Thinking of staying at the college there cos think it should be the most economical....but wondering if I can still fit into the hostel culture and mixing around with all the young kids...haha...I stayed in hostel during my undergrad days so maybe not so bad.
for air tics, i am thinking of STA, they do offer some student packages. Will go check it out once my visa is done.

That's great you're headed there for postgrad too! Yeah at my age, I wouldn't be too keen on hostel life either. Partying and drinking is just not my cup of tea anymore. For air tickets, I have been checking out tickets on Qantas and cheapest I have found is $798. I looked at STA and it was $800+ the other day. Dropping you a PM.

I am concerned abt qantas le.....with all the recent flight scares...STA is offering 30kg luggage load for students, norm is 20kg, price diff like not much, I am gonna check out once my visa is done.
