ENTRALLED: The audience sang along lustily to Craig David's hits and obeyed commands to cut loose on the dance floor.SUAVE British R&B crooner Craig David got the girls swooning and singing at his Greatest Hits gig at Zirca Mega Club last Wednesday.
Dressed in an all-white ensemble and aviator shades, the 27-year-old once the youngest solo male artiste to hit No. 1 in Britain at the age of 19 with Fill Me In (1999) bounced onto the stage just before 9pm.
He kicked the 75-minute show off with hits like Hot Stuff (Let's Dance) and What's Your Flava.
By the time he launched into 7 Days, it was clear that the show he had on his hands was a massive sing-along.
Women, in between screaming their lungs out, lustily sang to numbers like Insomnia and Walking Away all of which can be found on his Greatest Hits album, which was released last November.
David who was last in Singapore in 2001 for an invite-only showcase at Zouk that saw a big turnout of gatecrashers can sometimes come across as too dated. Booty-shaking dance moves, for example, came across as more embarrassing and cringe-worthy, rather than sexy.
But by and large, the audience remained sufficiently enthralled to obey the man's commands, such as when he urged the packed dance floor to "let go and let loose" to funkier tunes like Rewind and 6 of 1 Thing.
The crowd, obviously out for a good time, gamely danced along to David's encore, Fill Me In. In the end, many left the show sweaty, hoarse and smiling. All in all, not a bad night.
