Bar tending

lately interested in learning to mix drinks, but after a bit of asking around heard can pay a fee to get those bartenders to teach
i only know very very basics of drink-mixing
who here knows huhz? or got lobang?
i.e frens who bar tends??

i do bar tending but some time kena do floor staff , aiya do bar tending easy one lar , u will slowly get use to it , n can auto remember how to do the drink i last time always need to see de book n do de drink slowly now got use to it n very fast do finnish liao , but still wan to learn how to flare , but cannot cos de floor dont have rubber met

mixing is simple
memorise the recipe and practise and u will get the hang of it..
but want to wow the crowd then mus have some style
like throwing the bottles around
juggling and all tt
i got frens in Zouk (who usually dun do styles...cos too crowded) and China Jump and the old Venom (now China Black but he quit liao)
SHATEC got teach
and i tink Hospitality in Temasek Poly oso got relevant courses

Hi everybody,
Was browsing throught the threads only to realise that there are ppl with the same interest. So decided to join the forum and put in my five cents worth. Well I used to be a bartender and i really loved to flare. Fire flare proves to be one of the most appealing acts of a bartender. It doesnt take a long time to learn the trade! probably in 1-2 months time, u guys can start a flaring school...anyway to be real gd u have to practise very often and b prepared to break lotsa bottles......but i guess thats the fun of it all......If u tok abt mixxing drinks, i dun think u can find many bartenders who can mix real gd drinks....reason being...few singaporeans appreciate cocktails.....wine, beer, liquor are probably the most singaporeans go....but recently i realise that the interest is getting more n more fervent, i hope this trend keep it up though....mayb the few cocktails that singaporeans do drink will be lambourgini, b52, sex on the bitch, long island tea, etc etc...
i hope i have given u guys a heads off for this topic....n hopefully not too late....

i dun deny that some bartenders out there are jus out to flare their way into the skirt sof those gers! well its always take 2 hands to clap! the gers will not get into such tricks unless they themselves are willing to be tricked by those bartenders.

if uare interested in learning bartending, call up shatec for the following courses...diploma in hotel mgmt(3 yrs course), certificate in f&b management (2yrs), certificate on bar mgmt (p/t only)......i would advise u to borrow or buy some books regarding bartending before rushing into taking the course. for flaring wise....neither shatec nor Temasek Poly teaches u that, its a skill which u will pick up on ur own practice observing other bartenders and thru ur experience.....try going to bartending competitions also, btw the bartenders back in venom (now chinablack) were very gd....wonder if they are using the same bartenders??Originally posted by Summer_Snow:lately interested in learning to mix drinks, but after a bit of asking around heard can pay a fee to get those bartenders to teach

Shatec do teach you bartending. But the 3 years dip course does not concentrate on bartending alone. To learn bartending, you must actually have hands on training. Once you are an experienced bartender, you can check out some courses like the John Wyhte course Far East. www.iba.au.com
After which for flair bartending, you can check out a Singapore flair association like www.overpour.com or international : check out www.barflair.org
