can post overseas MRTs?
these taken from Taiwan...
Bullet Train, known as Taiwan High Speed Rail: top speed nearly 300kmph. everyone gets a confirmed seat
the interior.. a bit like commercial aircraft..
Taipei MRT, aka , theres 2 types.. one is somewhat like our EWL/ NSL with underground, street and aboveground stations.. 6 carriages. the train arrival timer counts by minutes and seconds.
a platform which is permanently not in use? (西門 station)
the other type of MRT is above ground and has only 4 carriages.. each carriage is independent.. like 4 LRTs joined together.. never took any pics tho

You had to pay extra for reservations right? Is the seat allocated at the time of ticket purchase or do you have to pay for the additional surcharge before boarding the train?

... I also hate that announcement. It is so annoying, I think SMRT trains is the best.
NEL annoincements nv make so peaceful
U mean the 'Please do not lean against the door'.
Yap. And approaching the station the announcement was very confusing and messy...

mine was a group ticket. the tour guide just gave to us... cost NT$665.. but theres a extra charge of NT$100 for a reserved seat i presumed, since its not stated (total cost $665). our carriage (carriage 9) has a special EDS saying "RESERVED"

oh yea.. their blue MRT.. i really love their ticketing system.. single trip tickets are bought from their own machines.. while those pre-paid one will top up their cards on another machines.. same as our ez-link technology, tap and go.
for the single trip, u press the fare amount you want (like our old system), and the machine dispenses a chip. u tap the chip to go in. when u exit, u put the chip into a slot (like putting coins into a vending machine) and the door opens.. no need to queue up at GTMs press this and that and wait for any deposit
Hi BiminiRosy; Especially the next station Buangkok say until very fast.

LOL...
Then I should think that the system is similar to what they use in Western Europe on the highspeed International InterCity Express trains operated by the German Rail DB Deutsche Bahn(with the sole exception of the Austria services which are usually operated by OBB Railjet).
Same like the SNCF(French National Railways), except for that one, basically all tickets standard need to book, regardless of class or distance or train type. Really hate it because you have to book and then reserve again for every particular sector. Not good if you are backpacking and want to get to many different destinations quickly. And they don't come cheap too...
If only Eastern Europe(Polish PKP, Hungarian MAV, Ceske Dracky and OBB) has a better system. Currently it is very confusing, this system of tariffs and surcharges...
So confusing, that a case where your surcharge+tariff under certain circumstances might be even more expensive then the cost of your ticket itself. Really vomit blood...

Then you would prolly love the honor system in Europe better... Hahaha!
They base it on merit, you pay for the ticket at the station counter, and stamp it yourself at a small machine before you board the train. No ticket counters, concourses whatever...
Simple and cheap to maintain, too.
TRTS does have non-reserved seat. I remember that cos I bought one and accidentally sat at the reserved seat area. Only to be told off by the staff that I boarded at the wrong compartment. =\
