Gardner set to sign new contract
Aston Villa midfielder Craig Gardner is set to sign a fresh contract to keep him at Villa Park until 2009. And the 19-year-old could celebrate the deal by making his first senior start at home to Newcastle on Saturday.
Gardner, who has made two appearances for Villa this season, may get his chance with Gavin McCann and James Milner both ruled out.
The teenager made his debut as a second-half substitute in Villa's 4-0 win over Everton on Boxing Day.
Meanwhile, the return to fitness of striker Milan Baros will provide Villa boss David O'Leary with a selection headache ahead of the visit of Newcastle.
Baros missed the 4-0 success over Middlesbrough with a hamstring injury - a match that saw Luke Moore score his first senior hat-trick - but is available for selection ag -

doug is one of those "dog in a manger" type people..
no ambition, not interested, no vision, no focus...
probably holding on to the stake in villa just to boast that he's owns a football club.. -
actually villa is in the top ten is spending money on transfers in the last 20 years, so it's not really doug not wanting to spend money, i think his choice of managers is the prob, and he keeps changing managers that's the prob.
now boh rui liao still have to compensate o'leary i wonder if this is the best move.. -

I think the problem lies with the starting 11. There's no first team. Players are rotated week in n week out.

there is a starting 11, just that last season got a lot of ppl injured so it seems like there's rotating, gareth barry started every game last season -
probably his interference in club decisions tat affects the players n managers...
