Honestly, what makes SMRT think that they will always have a MRT line to operate? SMRT is not owned by the government, neither is Temasek.
What I see is that Temasek wants to discard SMRT.
Last year, Temasek bought the remaining 40% shares of SMRT.
This year, Temasek sells SMRT taxi.
Next time, Temasek may sell SMRT train and SMRT bus, and SMRT may cease to exist.
The whole country has already been sold. What's a tiny SMRT?

Who is Temasek's shareholder?Temasek's shareholder is the Singapore Minister for Finance1.
Okay. I was wrong.
According to Temasek's website, "Temasek is wholly-owned by the Singapore Minister for Finance". "The Ministry of Finance (MOF) is a central ministry of the Singapore Government." (I assume "Minister" and "Ministry" mean the same thing.)
In other words, SMRT is owned by the Singapore Government.
It's understandable if Temasek wants to discard SMRT, considering the Government is intensifying the competition in the public transport industries (bus, MRT, taxi). It may not be fair if the government awards a contract to its own company, so it's possible that Temasek may dissolve SMRT...
Unless, this is part of the government's plan to takeover the entire MRT network, which was mentioned in 2015. If so, SMRT may acquire the train business of SBS Transit, and SMRT may be transferred to the Land Transport Authority (LTA).

Good to know that the competition is heating up. Now that Prime has expressed its interest, it's possible that the other taxi companies may also express their interest in SMRT's taxi business.
I mean, that's the purpose of creating the news about Grab negotiating with SMRT, right? It's possible that SMRT's talks with Grab has not materialised, and now they are looking for other competitors.
