Do what you like, if you like and dream of being a taxi driver, go ahead, just do it. But if you are going to compare $$ instead of yr life and dream, then forget about taxi, go be a broker or like me, a casket driver cum casket marketing sale director at hospital better.
Everyone of those poster on top of me will encourage you not to drive because they come into taxi driving as a last resort, meaning, no choice. But if you come in with a dream and wanting to be, that is different, it is not a last resort for you, ride your dream.
Although there are many taxi driver, like those above, keep kpkb everyday, there are some who enjoyed it.
listen to this “Go with your heart”...
if really so jialat...i will kill my ownself...i dun let my love 1 suffer!
When we were young and in primary school, when teachers ask us about our aspirations, all the children aspire to be doctors, lawyers, businessmen, pilots, professionals etc when they grow up but i have never heard of anyone wanna be a taxi driver.
So to be or not, the answer is obvious. It should be whether you have a choice or not.
I got my TDVL yr2013 and still keeping inside pocket, that year also not happy with work/boss etc. Tahan till last year Nov wanted to just quit and drive taxi but then wife last year had retired liao so I'm the only income earner, think think still better don't do anything rush. Got stable job just stick to it cos the welfare, benefit and employer's CPF etc.
Two month ago I just happen to search the car 2nd hand market, decided to upgrade my OPC SLK(COE till Aug yr2018) to a bigger one. Bght a toyota rush 1.5A(COE till Aug yr2017) tradein my SLK $12K and paid $13K settled no loan, with insurance admin fee etc another $1.8K. This car have a minimum parf $9.3K and most likely I can still scrap or sell it before COE expire at $10K next year, so my cost is about $4.8K minus one year use of SLK also.
Then suddenly it came across my mind why not drive GRAB/UBER part time using my car since I got many off days as I'm working on 12hrs shift, one week I have 2-4days off. Previously I did not consider of doing taxi/grab/uber part time cos most of the time rental does not match but now since my car park there also no use during off days. Registered a company $115 but if convert to commercial motor insurance is around $2K after NCD quite expensive, I need to top up about $1.2K with current private motor insurance refund.
Not really good with road, route and meeting people so still holding back. Now just trying Grabhitch(no need commercial motor insurance, limited to 2 hitch per day) for two weeks liao, only 5 rides which match my usual route to work(less than 5mins detour) and received $43. Just try and see the experience driving, at least if really suay kena retrench I have an option.
My childhood dream not big also, bus uncle only. I like driving actually..

That's the power of Grab/Uber lor...Fulfills people's aspirations to own a car and offset the costs at the same time. So many drive part time after work or before work...and those are eating into taxi drivers income during the peak hours.

Uber/Grab is just another option avaliable be it for driver or passenger, grabhitch for me is just try out for the fun and experience of it. To do or not to do I'll still be driving my own car without any stress in terms of financial, been driving for more than 20 over years I only afford my car well within my comfort zone. Big luxury car definately not in my range, anyway just sharing what I have.
From the way I look at it, using own car may be cheaper than renting from pte if driving uber/grab and lesser stress. No loan debt free and end of the day this car actual cost is only $4800 for 15months usage(not yet include roadtax/insurance/petrol etc). Grabhitch is not regular in daily basis cos not always get a match same timing same destination.

ur car cost should be be 12K + 4.8K mah....
anyway, uber advertised on newspaper that they guarantee their driver can earn $5000/month for first 3 months...
but after deducting 20% commission, another 1500 for rentral, another 500 for petrol (should be more?), left only 2000/month.....
Sorry I think I made a mistake here, totally forgot the $12K from my tradein. That old car bght at year 2008 was $18K after LTA rebate and after used for almost 8yrs still can fetch $12K is like a bonus to me, no debt no loan. My actual cash upfront for this 1yr+ leftover toyota rush is a bit lesser than $15K fully settled also. Also from OPC to normal plate I think is same trade off and stress free I guess, no need to worry about eDay license.
Hi all, i am also very keen to be a td. I like the freedom and working at my own pace. However, my wife is not so supportive. Main concern is worrying abt pay CPF housing loan. I have totally lost interest in my current job. I know i will be happier being a td but not for my wife....

Owning a car is unless you are some marketing or sales or company issue car/transport or enough spare cash to spare, otherwise, if can, travel by public transport in Singapore is the best.
Although it can be quite troublesome, but it add exercise to individual to walk and take public transport, and as an old man, can see many balls….bak bak..
There is study that those who drive tend to have more medical problem than those who walk to take public transport.
push everything to public transport until MRT get so full that it breakdown anytime and bus timing also no good unless operators can offer salaries of $5k a month maybe it time to give taxi and goto drive bus.

u r funny... u wan bus operators give S$5000 salaries to their drivers, but on the other hand, you are complaining that bus fares should not increase...and complain that gov suck all the money...
