Aiyo, taxi business depend a lot on FT business, you can curse and curse, main bulk of business still cum from them.......
This one depends on which location you are at, which day and what time.
But during day time especially after peak hours, bulk of the trips in town area are from tourists. If you end up at outskirts like Yishun, Bukit Panjang and Tampines, then you would get mostly local customers.
Weekend at shopping malls, you get fair mix of locals and FTs waiting long long time for taxi as suddenly there are a lot higher demand for taxis and many taxi drivers also take their breaks during weekends.
Must be so precise meh?.......
Just count your trip everyday, you will realised, where is the local?.......
A Chinese look alike on board, ended up from Vietnam......
A Malay look alike on board, ended up from Malaysia.......
A Indian look alike on board, confirm from India......
A angmo look alike on board, you thought is FT, never know he holding pink IC, telling you off, how many years he had stay here.......

True, there are self-made millionaires take calculated risks. But what is not revealed everywhere is for every successfull businessman millionaire, there are at least a few not successfull businessmen. Many years ago I read a book written by a successful Singaporean multi-millionaire; what was revealed in that book is most businesses in Singapore do not survive beyong a few years.
It does not seem to be wrong if you look at the number of shops that changed-hands at shopping malls, this does not seem to be wrong.
These days you would become slaves to mall owners if you rent a shop from them especially the very established ones that demand renovation once every 5 years and would raise rentals after that.
If you stick to disciplined taxi driving, you would earn a million in 20 years (but I do not know how much you would be able to save).
Now is new month, but pax numbers are weak.
i think many tightening their wallet

Even so, most pax are going for Uber and GrabCar lah...cheaper, no surcharge. If you are a night driver and have not noticed this, then you deserve to be like the boiled frog.
A current booking trip from Downtown East to Serangoon Central for a regular taxi after midnight will cost around $20 to $21. The same Uber trip costs $12 only, all in. You say leh?
At condos, security guards tell me. Out of every 10 cars that pick up pax from the condos, 6 are either Uber or Grab.

Instead of choosing traditional business, you can still choose cheaper option like Ecommerce if possible? : http://s3-us-west-2.amazonaws.com/healthywealthyacademy/eCommerce/Choosing+a+Niche+For+Ecommerce.pdf

Many will end up omo. Drive from morning 6am until night time 10 to 11pm. Longer working hours in order to make the same amount last time.
If you drive only 6am to 6pm, may not make much. Drive 6pm to 6am, after midnight, no pax.

Whether go OMO or not depends on luck and whether signed up Comfort's newbie "Don't need deposit package".
If started as relief and got a close to "Ideal case" hirer, will stick with him for both side happy scenario.
Drive 6am to 6pm is try your best and don't take too many breaks and be contented with whatever you make also with the understanding would make more with more experience. By right should be make more because oil price cheaper right now. Also how much money you make also depends on when your shift starts and where you stay (normally 4am ones make less than 6am ones, live in Boon Lay start at 4am ones must wait super-long at airport for customers, live nearer to towns ones got advantage over those living in Yishun, Woodlands for queues in town).
Newbie OMO very siong because not enough experience and not too familiar with routes.
Old bird OMO if started from 6am by right normally should be can end shift at 9pm (3 hours extra for rental, additional fuel and an extra meal). If drive beyond is make 1 to 2 trips of extra money or pump fuel. Friday night and Saturday night special case as need to make more (when there are a lot of customers) so that don't have to fetch customers on Sunday.
If you encounter less customers, it should be because or Uber and GrabCar factor as well as due to economic slow down (when other people in Singapore are not doing well, they take less taxi so taxi sector also affected [lost job, less clients, less OT and less bonus] ).

"As a result, taxi drivers are earning more. On average, taxi drivers' nominal net earnings have increased by 3.5 per cent annually since 2003, Mr Ng, who is also the Acting Education Minister, said."
Taxi drivers income have risen a total of 51% over the last 12 years !!!!!

SINGAPORE - Driverless "'pods" plying private estates, university campuses and business parks could hit Singapore in a big way, with a new joint venture announced on Wednesday (April 20).
Local transport operator SMRT and Netherlands-based 2getthere has entered into a partnership to form 2getthere Asia - an outfit to bring these automated vehicle systems into Singapore and the region.
By the end of this year, 2getthere Asia aims to showcase what it calls a group rapid transit (GRT) vehicle - an air-conditioned, 24-passenger "pod" - in a live environment in Singapore.
While the GRT is unable to go onto public roads, it can work in what 2getthere calls a "semi-controlled" environment where the behaviour and speeds of other road users can be managed. It can pick up and drop off passengers at designated stops.
2getthere has already installed similar automated vehicle systems in Masdar City, Abu Dhabi and the Rivium Business Park in Rotterdam, Netherlands.
Company executives said they are in talks with several organisations in Singapore - including an education campus and a private company - to implement such a system, but declined to reveal names.
As the GRT will not require drivers and can be ordered on-demand, it is touted to be safer and more resource-efficient.
Managing director for SMRT services Colin Lim said: "There is a growing national push to implement future mobility solutions that can meet our first and last-mile connectivity needs in Singapore."
Mr Lim said the GRT could also be deployed in its depots to transport staff.
