just gotten my tdvl,
looking to start soon. any advices?
Comfort Delgro (i40)
This one depends on whether there are hirers living in the same block or near your block and what companies they rented from.
Most likely, you are not ready to become a hirer (especially OMO hirer) so it is better for you to start as a relief.
It is easier to find a hirer if you join Comfort.
However, I heard Transcab offers better rental rates after rebates (but not sure about it) so you could be saving on rental if you partner with a Transcab hirer.
driving a taxi is not easy, no joke

From age of 45 onwards, very difficult to find good jobs.
Many jobs in the market with nicer sounding titles are not salaried jobs so income is not stable. In other words, jobs like property agent, renovation sales coordinators, financial adviser, insurrance salesman and many other sales positions without base-salary are jobs that could essentially waste your time for many months and still make you poorer (you have to incur expenses but many not get anything/enough back).
Though it may be true that some of these jobs's upper limit is very high (like property agents could earn more than 1 million a year) but the median (not average which is distorted by the people who make a lot) salary/profit is actually quite low.
The way I see it is "earning more than 1 million as property agent is like striking Toto". If one despires for a job with a high upper limit (like CEO or earn more than 1 million commission), then one could just spend $14 per week or $728 a year on Toto to balance it out.
Once you switched over to being an entrepreneur, tasted the life of not having a salary and yet making more and having more free time for yourself - there is no turning back.
I wished I made that transition earlier. There are many businesses that apparently dont seem to earn alot, yet with the right attitude and passion, can really make money.
I kid you not, being a grab or uber driver is really the worse form of 'entrepreneurship'. Next is taxi driver. This one is slightly better, but also very jialat.
There really is many money to earn from businesses you see around. The most important question is which one suits you, and whether you are prepared to tough it out for a year. Passion is the key. The next is understanding local laws and how police think and operate. There is no such thing as a 100% legit government or business. Law abiding or not, frequently depends on whose side you are on. Very simple - police can carry guns, we cannot. So whether things are legal or not, depends on who got the bigger cannon - aka the government.

Taxi driving entrepreneurship is most likely make one.... only on days you don't work enough hours days, accident days and receive traffic fine days then you lose one. We all know trade off is super-long hours even on public holidays.
On the other hand, many business owners also lose money one but also got some make a lot one.
I dont know how I endured those years of collecting a salary and worrying how long before I got the sack. Working life is so hard, much harder than being an entrepreneur. I take my hats off to those office workers, especially those who have a suck balls and get poked to climb their way up. Really jin jia lat.
But then again taxi drvr also don't get salary.also somemore must pay rental+diesel everyday before u drv.but if got family to feed, then no choice lor .
Go drive first, report here 1 month later.......

What business are you in? How much capital needed?
This is the wrong mentality. It is also one of GIC n temasek's investment failure. First question is not how much a biz costs. It is what you truely believe in and enjoy doing. The desire must come from your soul. Next is to take a small step forward, one step at a time. There is some 'gambling' involved. Dont put all your chips on banker or player. Just abit at a time. What industry can make money? I would say all also can, but not everyone will find equal success. The key is to try. Dont try means forever stuck as a cabby. This is what propelled me. I was frightened of being a cabby for life. Its a job i consider worse than collecting dead bodies.
Taxi drvrs worse than casket drvr?then go n ask bro Bowah .any job is honourable
Its my personal view. I hated driving taxis to the point i just had to quit. Many others like it or can tolerate it. So i clearly am not suitable. Different people excel at different things. You must discover the force inside youself, awaken it and let it guide your destiny.

Anyone here who feels not suitable for TD or already sick of TD life could now apply to Sands Casino as a dealer.
They are right now recruiting (received a black recruitment card from them) again at:
Marina Bay Sands Talent Hub
10 Bayfront Link, Level 1, MasterCard Theatres
So we taxi drivers make outside the casino and you guys could make inside the casino.
Here is one good story with happy ending about a taxi driver who stopped driving taxi to venture into business but failed. He redeemed his life back when he struck first prize in Toto: http://news.asiaone.com/News/The+New+Paper/Story/A1Story20101101-245078.html .
