i recommend Noir if you're into violence.. coz it's about assassins...
for comic and manic mayhem, Trigun is hilarious! some dude with a 60 billion bounty on him because he manages to totally demolish everywhere he steps into.. no matter how hard he tries not to, others will demolish the place for him
there's one out there which i cannot find the DVDs for.. Gunslinger Girl.. it had an ending which will absolutely break your heart
oh.. i also got Akira and the first Ghost In The Shell on LD -

he's the leader of the 108 Dragons.. lots of violence and mayhem...
but in there, is a love story of a Japanese man, who became an assassin, and had the leadership of a very powerful chinese triad handed to him.. of a lady who became his wife...

Gunslinger Girl is quite sad. All of them have a pretty sad and sordid past really.
