Read "Buddhism in a Nutshell" ( http://www.buddhanet.net/e-learning/buddhism/nshellct.htm ) once through to understand the basic teachings of Buddhism.
Then go to Access to Insight ( http://www.accesstoinsight.org/ ) and search under the key teachings of Buddhism, using keywords like 'karma', 'rebirth', 'dependent origination', 'anatta', etc. to access the sutras/scripture which teach these.
This should give you plenty to read and slowly absorb for a while.

You can go online or pick up some free books from Buddhist Lodge. When taking Dharma (books, CDs, etc), take care not to waste them. When no longer using it, return it so that another can benefit from it, unless you want to keep for reference.
If you really don't know where to start, try to find out more about these 2 topics. They are the Core Teachings, it is the same for all traditions.
- The Four Noble Truths
