I'm reading this technical, hardcore meditation manual book 'Mahamudra: The Moonlight' by 16th century Mahamudra Master Dakpo Tashi Namgyal.
As I said, this is much more technical, hardcore, kind of dharma book coming from someone with very deep insight and experience, elaborating the topic of meditation with amazing depth and clarity.
Highly recommended reading.
Oh and I guess you could start with 'Clarifying the Natural State' first because it is easier and shorter to read. Then get to this one. Commentaries by Thrangu Rinpoche for both texts are also highly useful and well written.
" Emaho! In this book Dakpo presents the most clear and detailed exposition on Mahamudra practice that I've ever seen. Every step of the practice is very thoroughly discussed ---- proper method, common problems and their remedies, common misinterpretations, etc. The translation is very clear. Best of all, whenever he explains something or offers a useful method to overcome a hangup, he cites the source! This 500 year old book just might meet APA standards ^_^. It reads like a technical manual, and appeals very much to my intellectual mind. For me, this detailed exegesis works to develop faith in the practice and the lineage by exhaustively answering every question my doubtful mind raises. This might be all you need for a lifetime of practice (although I would throw in his Clarifying the Natural State for good measure). If you are a Mahamudra practitioner (particularly in the Kagyu lineage) get this book. Even if you are not and you simply want the most detailed explanation of shamata (samatha, shamada, shinay, zhine) and vipassyana (vipassana, lhak thong, lak tong) around, then this book is for you!"
Nice book.
Bought this one 2 years ago, til now haven't finish :p
I too bought it about 3 years ago. Time to take it out and read :)
Thanks for the sharing.
I think some of the Mahamudra books are very good.
I have the below mentioned book for a few years..
http://www.amazon.com/Naked-Awareness-Practical-Instructions-Mahamudra/dp/1559391464/
I now am rereading it as it covers the advanced stages clearly and allows me to see where (which stage) I am at.
