Do you know anything about the pills from tibetan buddhism? I was given by the shifu but wonder if there is any expiry date. I don't not eat any more after so long.
With regards to the pills, I assume you could be referring to Mani Pills.
Another forummer Weychin gave me this information in the past.
About the Precious Mani Pills These pills have been prepared according to the proper Vajrayana ritual and method laid down in the Karma Kagyud Lineage. Under the guidance of the most Venerable Shangpa Rinpoche and Venerable Dupsing Rinpoche, the monks from Jangchub Choeling Monastery and their devotees have meditated and recited the Avalokiteshvara's Mantra (OM MANI PADME HUNG) over one hundred million times to bless the Pills.
The sacred substances that were used in the production of the Pills are:
Precious Mani pills made by Tripon Pema Chogyal
Nectar pills made by Guru Rinpoche (Padmasambhava) and his twenty-five renowned disciples, and Mani Pills made by the 3rd Gyalwa Karmapa, Rangjung Dorje
Black Pills of the 16th Gyalwa Karmapa
Longevity pills made by the Great Translator Vairocana
Collection of all precious blessing pills from the past sixteen Gyalwa Karmapas
Material from Guru Rinpoche (Padmasambhava)'s hat
Relics of Lord Gampopa, Urgyen Lingpa and 16th Gyalwa Karmapa
Robes of Jetsun Milarepa and the 14th, 15th and 16th Gyalwa Karmapas
Many other precious herbs from the sacred mountains
Some of the Benefits
According to Guru Rinpoche (Padmasambhava), whoever consumes the properly prepared "Mani" pills will be blessed both physically and spiritually. These pills can purify one's negative karmic forces and turn the mind towards the Dharma. They can prevent epidemic disease, poison, etc. and remove obstacles such as curses and black magic. A dying person will be liberated if he takes it.
The pills can be consumed by themselves or dissolved in water for drinking. Alternatively, one can also inhale the fumes from burning the pounded pills. After taking the pills one should recite the Six-Syllable Mantra (OM MANI PADME HUNG) several times for the pills to be more effective.
to think this esoteric practises, I am not sure this can be called buddhist. I certainly dun recall Buddha telling his disciples or lay followers to take his mani pill. this is certainly unbuddhist practises.

i can only reply from my limited knowledge
The pill given to you, can be from many many types of pills. Basically the general term can be simply called dharma pills. Most of the pill are meant to be taken, some are not.
Normally when a master give you the pill, is normally they feel you need it. The basic ingredient is herbal with added of many other holy materials and blessed water in making it, and blessed through some powerful puja(aka prayers)
Is ok if you dont feel like taking it, these pills are highly blessed with many holy materials, as such just by keeping it can be regarded as a powerful amulet.
For me, those that i dont consume, some i store it in a small stupa and place on my alter, or you can get a holder and wear it and regarded as an amulet.
Some pills even will grow more and more by itself, some eveb grow bigger and bigger.

the vow is noble and great, but need to perfect all the perfections in order to be ready to be a Buddha. Mahayana asipirations is great, but need to walk the talk also. you have to be ready to give up even your own life for the perfection of giving.

To give without wisdom
is to share your delusion.

Grow bigger and bigger! That's miracle. I believe in miracles, there are many things that Science can't explain. It is true that Tibetian Buddhism can perform many miracles which can solve immediate problems but we have go back to the basic teachings of Buddha. We must watch our karma or miracles will not work for those with bad karma.

I agree, i seen a number of times different phenonmenon happens which I with my limited knowledge cannot explain, but when asking the lama about the phenonmenon, they will normally just smile or they will brush it away as coincidents.
The lama will always ask you to go back to teaching rather then attaching to phenonmenon.
How I wish I see the phenonmenon.
