Helping sentient beings requires wisdom. That's buddhist teaching. We must make sure help is reached to the family in need. What I would suggest is to meet the family suffering from it. That's most important. Another thing is meet Ming Hui in person to verify that he is not a 'conman'. I suggest avoiding sending cheque (anyhow) when we have not yet verified the 'truth'.
I call Ming Hui today. I prefer to meet the suffering family in person and pass the money to the family directly just to make sure help is reached. Ming Hui told me to call him next week as he needs to arrange and get approval from the wife to meet the family. I personally would not pass the money directly to Ming Hui at the moment as I've not met him in person yet and cannot be place any form of trust yet since I've not met Ming Hui in person. Furthermore, I can bring other relief items (not necessarily money) like books, clothings etc
But I would like is to meet Ming Hui first to build some trust here and also to see the poor family suffering. Not sure if my Chinese is not clear or not, but Ming Hui doesn't quite understand my intent when I ask him what religion (宗教信仰） the suffering family is. If they are buddhist, I can bring some buddhist chanting music to help out.
In short, I would prefer to meet the family who is in need of help so that I can directly provide help to them.
So if possible, tell Ming Hui to arrange a meetup with the family in need of help and provide details for such meeting (address of home, contact etc.) so that we can make visit to the family.
