hahaha, you still don't get the meaning of faith and my explanation. You just don't like my statement which is negative.
Open your eyes, which religion allows or welcomes you to openly and unreservedly question the reality of its belief - god/God/deity, the truth of their doctrines, or discuss 'sensitive' areas of its belief?

Faith generally means trust, firm belief, having the confidence in. Children have faith in their parents. They trust their parents to provide or protect them. When I buy a loaf of bread, I have faith in the bakery. I trust that I won't be poisoned. When you buy an insurance policy, it is based on good faith - meaning the insurer trust that you have declared all the information completely and truthfully. How's that for my English?
In religious faith, it means a firm belief in some supernatural beings, the teachings, or the practices. That means one does so without questioning, checking or verifying. Take the belief in god/God. If you go by faith, you don’t question whether god/God exists or is real. You would also believe the supernatural powers without checking, testing, investigating or verifying. You would take into confidence whatever the teachers told you or written in the scriptures. And you would follow the practices or rites or rituals faith fully.
If you believed something after questioning, checking, investigating, testing, verifying and so forth, then you won’t call it faith. Hence, the term blind faith is used for a belief when there is no question, check, verification, analysis and so forth. Notice that many religions are like that, you don’t question whether their god/God exists. And you accept without question the doctrines or the practices. The belief in ghost is also blind faith.
I don’t subscribe that we ‘possess’ faith. There are reasons why a person would go by faith. A child trusts its parent because of the special relationship. I trust the bakery because I don’t think it would do an evil thing like adding poison to the dough. The insurer has to go by faith because it is quite impossible for it to verify the completeness and truthfulness of the information asked for.
May I ask why you think we practice on blind faith?

I was talking about religious faith which includes supernatural beings, teachings and practice. However, in practice there is also rites and rituals. Many practices are devotional in nature. As long as you don't question why you carry out a certain rite or ritual, you are doing so by blind faith.
It is all back to understanding of the word 'faith'. Sorry to say this, but from the two posts, I gather that the meaning of faith is not easily understood and mostly mistaken as faith=religion. It is the other way round. When a religion has a set of ideologies that you simply believed, that is faith. When the belief is not questioned, that is blind faith.
There is nothing wrong with the phrase 'blind faith'. It is your mindset that tells you 'blind faith' is negative and adverse, and you rather tell yourself 'my belief is not blind'.

You lacked perspective. Not a funny issue. One way track mind with nothing to retrospect with...

It is ok. You are asking question which is quite right to do. I remember reading somewhere where the buddha asked his disciples not to follow blindly. I can't remember the exact words though.
I hope it is ok that I tell you, but sometimes your posts can be difficult to understand. Perhaps you would like to use simpler words?

I have used simple words that you don't even need to open a dictionary. Tell me what is it that you don't understand? The word or the message?

hahaha, you are getting more incomprehensive with each exchange with me. You seemed more sensible in other forums. Perhaps, you lacked perspective in this forum?
Also, you are no match for my repartee. I am restraining myself because this is a Buddhist forum. In retrospect, I can see why you are dead set in your track because you just don't like that I am smarter than you!

Well, I am wondering, what exactly is 'blind faith'? Above site have plenty of people, smart people, who believe in something higher, greater than themselves. Some are even in field of science!
Once people said, stupid Christian believe in God the Father, Son and Holy Ghost, and yet they say they believe in one God? How can 1+1+1 equal to 1?
But people who understand quantum physic will understand, energy of light reflected, plus the energy of light penetrated, is the same, and the sum of 2 is still the same, meaning, 1+1 deed equal to 1.
Hum. . . who is talking so loudly? I am not sure if he ever read but 1% of the books in this universe, and yet dare to say such word with surety. This person has a PhD? or PHD, meaning Permanent Head Damaged.
Old Man.

Yeah... assumptions, believe them, you did.
Its one of my better skills. Exposing ignorance. You are unable to argue with propriety because you don't possess what you like to believe you have.
I'm not into "winning" arguments. I just cannot contain the impulse of stripping the empty shell of... meaningless ego. There is only one true religion, its the beliefs that one retains.

I shall focus on your opening sentence: "Well, I am wondering, what exactly is 'blind faith'?"
You have confirmed what I said earlier: most people don't understand the meaning of faith. Have you read all my posts and replies regarding this topic so far?
Perhaps, I can give another example: When I say I have faith in my surgeon who is going to operate me. What do I mean? It means I have confidence in my surgeon. I trust he can do a good job and I believed he would perform to the best of his ability.
If the faith in my surgeon was without basis, such as I have no idea he is qualified or experienced, I never check which university he graduated from, how many similar operations he has performed, then my faith is BLIND FAITH.
Now, do you have faith in my explanation or are you still blinded?

No, not assumptions or belief. It is real by observations. You are getting incomprehensive in this forum.

It is the message as a whole that is hard to understand. However, I believe that I understood you message although it is difficult.

Your observation failed. You are the only one not comprehending me. You merely believed your observation. What else do you think your observation proved?
Your appeal to ridicule is getting ridiculous.
