A dharma sister shared with us her encounters with non Buddhists who were from the heavenly religion. These non Buddhists said Buddha was an irresponsible man because he left his wife and son to seek enlightenment. I believe this thought is being input by their "teachers". It is another misconception that Buddhists need to correct or rebutt.
Of course Buddha was not an irresponsible man. He was a Great man who had saved countless sentiment beings including his wife and son from the suffering of rebirth cycle.
If I meet these people, I will tell them that someone up there was also very irresponsible because he did not keep those forbidden apples out of the reach of humans. Responsible parents will keep dangerous drugs out of the reach of their children.
the greatest love and compassion comes from sacrifices that uphold human fraternity and peace
sacrifices with such great honor and principle cannot be undermined...this made me recall a patriot leaving his family to protect his war torn country called singapore...
ah heard that one before. quite long time already. i forgot the christian preacher name, quite famous among christian society.
u say save from the suffering of rebirth cycle, they also don't believe rebirth wat.
say Buddha where got abandon them? where u learn Buddhism? His wife and son later came to join the sangha group under the Buddha after his search for Enlightenment wat. They were still "united". the wife and son never blame him. moreover, Buddha also went to heaven to preach to His parent. All attained arhathood.

don't get irritated by their comments because they don't understand...
it's difficult to explain rebirth to them... Haha... for me, i will share with them with the painter example... just to keep them pondering
see it from the human perspective and one will understand with great grievance and depth

true... but first, it's hard to relate to them rebirth. Lastly, you can't expect people to believe Buddha went to heaven and preach dharma to His parents...
Apple and orange cannot compared together... it is going to get meaningless instead of helping inter-faith understanding
Ignore them .I dun see the reason to rebutt them
First ,they say forsaken the family is irresponsible , but have they understand being a householder is also a denial of seeking the truth ?
next Buddha came back and save his family members ,carry his father coffin.which part is unfillial ?
they imposing their own family values on other people religion but have they asked themselve if their religion did have a clear check on all this "unfillial" move ?

yes, tis why i say use rebirth no use. they want rational, yet sometimes they themselves are unrational. if they talk about wife and son, we talk about wife and son.
beside, Buddha's mother Maya died shortly right after Buddha was born 7 days after. hence the saying that Buddha was unfillial to her cannot stand. Buddha is still a baby.
and sorry, correction, Buddha's father Suddhodana attained Arahathood before he died. taught by Buddha on earth, not in heaven.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/%C5%9Auddhodana
According to legend, Suddhodana lamented his son's departure and spent considerable effort attempting to locate him. Years later, after word of Siddhartha's enlightenment reached Suddhodana, he sent a messenger with 10,000 companions to invite Siddhartha back to the Shakya land. The Buddha proceeded to preach to the messenger and all 10,000 companions who in turn decided to join the Sangha and never return. Suddhodana then sent a close friend of Siddhartha's, Kaludayi, to invite him to return. Kaludayi also chose to become a monk, but kept his word to invite the Buddha back to his homeland. The Buddha accepted his father's invitation and returned to visit his homeland. During this visit, he preached the Dhamma to Suddhodana.
Many years later, when the Buddha heard of Suddhodana's impending death, he once again returned to his homeland and preached further to Suddhodana at his deathbed. King Suddhodana attained Arhantship.

Aiyo, religions surely will face attacks and misunderstanding.
Nowadays Islam repuation has been badly tarnished until they need to set up booths in Singapore 2011 bookfair to educate people about Islam.
They even give copies of Koran.
Alot of chinese traditional people also have bias against christianity.
My grandmother call them red hair temple.
She also think christians ppl put their parents in old folks home. Give church 10 percent willingly give parents dowan.
Alot of ppl also got wrong ideas of buddhism.
It's common nowadays.
Alot of ppl also think that monks become monks to escape from society.

I can understand that there are always misunderstandings among different religions but these people from the heavenly religion go to the extend of publishing books to attack Buddhism.

You are absolutely correct. They are unrational to the extend that they can bend their religion belief to attack Buddhism.
These non Buddhists said Guan Yin Pusa and Buddha are transformed from ghosts. (鬼的)because they were once humans. This saying is very widespread in the heavely religion because their "teacher" told them so. They also use this unrational belief to convert others.
My question is they believe in only heaven and hell, they don't believe in ghost realm, so where does the ghost logic come from? I wonder why the followers did not think deep enough to question their "teacher".
Next time, when someone tells you guys this, question them back how do the ghosts come about if there are only heaven and hell.
think they do believe in ghost in the form of devil, satan, or demon. u see got many movies on exorcism.

Yeah, they believe in devil, satan and demons but not humans who became ghosts after they died. So, what they said did not make sense. My relatives told me Buddha and Guanyin Pusa are幽.

You must put yourself in christian's shoes.
Because christians think non believers go to hell so they will try att sorts of thing to convert you.
Like if u are my frenz n I am a christian, I definitely will try to convert you or pray to God to save you something like that.

Yes my christians friend consider ghosts as devils disguising in the form of ghosts.
They believed devils heal the ppl when ppl from other religions not including christianity gets healed.

huh?
how come the heavenly religion can only attack other religions to suck in more followers?
they got nothing to talk about after hell and heaven ? very shallow isn't it ?
Buddhism has so much to learn that one lifetime is not even enough. Where got time to care what other faiths are preaching.
The christians themselves have misunderstandings of other religions so they attacked.
I got one christian friend who think buddhist eat 幅水。That is taoists.
Another think Muslims worship the kabba.
I think they should stop attacking other faiths and just focus on explaining their bible page by page. This will be in tune with their preaching of " Love and Harmony".
respecting all faiths is a responsible act towards harmony
Having seen life as "birth, aging, sickness and death " the Lord Buddha realised that everybody has to go through this process of unsatisfactoriness of existence. Most of us would shrugged and shown indifference and carried on with the unsatisfactory lives.
These people do not understand the significance and therefore speak with a deluded mind. They spoke with fork tongues and yet they do not realised it.
