Founded in 1993, Wisdom Sutra Distributor (智慧佛��通处) has, over many years, been unwavering in its objective to propagate the Buddha's teachings through the publication and free distribution of books, CDs and DVDs. It is most gratifying to know that in the recent years, WSD's Buddhist educational video documentaries have been received with much appreciation. Beyond various Buddhist classrooms and Buddhist events, they have also been screened for the public in cultural and counselling centres as teaching aids.
During this Vesak season, WSD will be putting its finishing touches on a video production that has been an ongoing project for many years - 'Bodhgaya'. Bodhgaya is located in Patna of India. It is where Shakyamuni Buddha historically attained Enlightenment, which makes it one of the four important holy places in Buddhist culture. It history was also recorded by great Chinese masters such as Venerable Faxian and Venerable Xuanzang. The Mahabodhi Monastery in Bodhgaya was also gazetted as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2002. Bodhgaya will also be the place where the Maitreya, the next Buddha, will attain Enlightenment.
The production of this documentary includes interviews with respected masters of various Buddhist traditions and different countries, using multiple languages to explain and explore on the special and important significance of Bodhgaya. To be broadcast and distributed via different media such as Taiwanese Buddhist television stations and DVDs, this educational film will propagate on the extraordinary value of Bodhgaya to a wide audience. So far, I did not see this DVD in any temple yet. May be they are in the midst of production. I've just received this email yesterday. I'll let you know if I happen to see it in the temple. I also want to watch. I believe it will be for free distribution in Singapore too as they have a office in Singapore.
