The Ten Major Precepts
1. First Major Precept
On Killing
A disciple of the Buddha shall not himself kill, encourage others to kill, kill by expedient means, praise killing, rejoice at witnessing killing, or kill through incantation or deviant mantras. He must not create the causes, conditions, methods, or karma of killing, and shall not intentionally kill any living creature. (24)
As a Buddha's disciple, he ought to nurture a mind of compassion and filial piety, always devising expedient means to rescue and protect all beings. If instead, he fails to restrain himself and kills sentient beings without mercy, he commits a Parajika (major) offense. (25)
2. Second Major Precept
On Stealing
A disciple of the Buddha must not himself steal or encourage others to steal, steal by expedient means, steal by means of incantation or deviant mantras. He should not create the causes, conditions, methods, or karma of stealing. No valuables or possessions, even those belonging to ghosts and spirits or thieves and robbers, be they as small as a needle or blade of grass, may be stolen.
As a Buddha's disciple, he ought to have a mind of mercy, compassion, and filial piety -- always helping people earn merits and achieve happiness. If instead, he steals the possessions of others, he commits a Parajika offense. (26)
3. Third Major Precept
On Sexual Misconduct
A disciple of the Buddha must not engage in licentious acts or encourage others to do so. [As a monk] he should not have sexual relations with any female -- be she a human, animal, deity or spirit -- nor create the causes, conditions, methods, or karma of such misconduct. Indeed, he must not engage in improper sexual conduct with anyone. (27)
A Buddha's disciple ought to have a mind of filial piety -- rescuing all sentient beings and instructing them in the Dharma of purity and chastity. If instead, he lacks compassion and encourages others to engage in sexual relations promiscuously, including with animals and even their mothers, daughters, sisters, or other close relatives, he commits a Parajika offense. (28)
4. Fourth Major Precept
On Lying and False Speech
A disciple of the Buddha must not himself use false words and speech, or encourage others to lie or lie by expedient means. He should not involve himself in the causes, conditions, methods, or karma of lying, saying that he has seen what he has not seen or vice-versa, or lying implicitly through physical or mental means. (29)
As a Buddha's disciple, he ought to maintain Right Speech and Right Views always, and lead all others to maintain them as well. If instead, he causes wrong speech, wrong views or evil karma in others, he commits a Parajika offense.
5. Fifth Major Precept
On Selling Alcoholic Beverages
A disciple of the Buddha must not trade in alcoholic beverages or encourage others to do so. He should not create the causes, conditions, methods, or karma of selling any intoxicant whatsoever, for intoxicants are the causes and conditions of all kinds of offenses.
As a Buddha's disciple, he ought to help all sentient beings achieve clear wisdom. If instead, he causes them to have upside-down, topsy-turvy thinking, he commits a Parajika offense. (30)
6. Sixth Major Precept
On Broadcasting the Faults of the Assembly
A disciple of the Buddha must not himself broadcast the misdeeds or infractions of Bodhisattva-clerics or Bodhisattva-laypersons, or of [ordinary] monks and nuns -- nor encourage others to do so. He must not create the causes, conditions, methods, or karma of discussing the offenses of the assembly.
As a Buddha's disciple, whenever he hears evil persons, externalists or followers of the Two Vehicles speak of practices contrary to the Dharma or contrary to the precepts within the Buddhist community, he should instruct them with a compassionate mind and lead them to develop wholesome faith in the Mahayana.
If instead, he discusses the faults and misdeeds that occur within the assembly, he commits a Parajika offense. (31)
7. Seventh Major Precept
On Praising Oneself and Disparaging Others
A disciple of the Buddha shall not praise himself and speak ill of others, or encourage others to do so. He must not create the causes, conditions, methods, or karma of praising himself and disparaging others.
As a disciple of the Buddha, he should be willing to stand in for all sentient beings and endure humiliation and slander -- accepting blame and letting sentient beings have all the glory. If instead, he displays his own virtues and conceals the good points of others, thus causing them to suffer slander, he commits a Parajika offense. (32)
8. Eighth Major Precept
On Stinginess and Abuse
A disciple of the Buddha must not be stingy or encourage others to be stingy. He should not create the causes, conditions, methods, or karma of stinginess. As a Bodhisattva, whenever a destitute person comes for help, he should give that person what he needs. If instead, out of anger and resentment, (33) he denies all assistance -- refusing to help with even a penny, a needle, a blade of grass, even a single sentence or verse or a phrase of Dharma, but instead scolds and abuses that person -- he commits a Parajika offense.
9. Ninth Major Precept
On Anger and Resentment
A disciple of the Buddha shall not harbor anger or encourage others to be angry. He should not create the causes, conditions, methods, or karma of anger.
As a disciple of the Buddha, he ought to be compassionate and filial, helping all sentient beings develop the good roots of non-contention. If instead, he insults and abuses sentient beings, or even transformation beings [such as deities and spirits], with harsh words, hitting them with his fists or feet, or attacking them with a knife or club -- or harbors grudges even when the victim confesses his mistakes and humbly seeks forgiveness in a soft, conciliatory voice -- the disciple commits a Parajika offense. (34)
10. Tenth Major Precept
On Slandering the Triple Jewel
A Buddha's disciple shall not himself speak ill of the Triple Jewel or encourage others to do so. He must not create the causes, conditions, methods or karma of slander. If a disciple hears but a single word of slander against the Buddha from externalists or evil beings, he experiences a pain similar to that of three hundred spears piercing his heart. How then could he possibly slander the Triple Jewel himself?
Hence, if a disciple lacks faith and filial piety towards the Triple Jewel, and even assists evil persons or those of aberrant views to slander the Triple Jewel, he commits a Parajika offense. (35)
V. Conclusion: The Ten Major Precepts
As a disciple of the Buddha, you should study these ten parajika (major) precepts and not break any one of them in even the slightest way -- much less break all of them! Anyone guilty of doing so cannot develop the Bodhi Mind in his current life and will lose whatever high position he may have attained, be it that of an emperor, Wheel-Turning King, Bhiksu, Bhiksuni -- as well as whatever level of Bodhisattvahood he may have reached, whether the Ten Dwellings, the Ten Practices, the Ten Dedications, the Ten Grounds -- and all the fruits of the eternal Buddha Nature. He will lose all of those levels of attainment and descend into the Three Evil Realms, unable to hear the words "parents" or "Triple Jewel" for eons! (36) Therefore, Buddha's disciples should avoid breaking any one of these major precepts. (37) All of you Bodhisattvas should study and observe the Ten Precepts, which have been observed, are being observed, and will be observed by all Bodhisattvas. They were explained in detail in the chapter, "The Eighty Thousand Rules of Conduct."

Explained it clearly. commiting this, breaks the Major bodhisattva Precept. the second para is an open exception of this precept. i.e. the person is preaching evil dharma. eg. saying there's no karma. no pureland etc. if so u can broadcasting them. if they break precepts, or commit 5 poisons, u can talk to them personally for 3 times and if they still do it, then u can quietly retreat.

但是身为一个è�©è�¨ï¼Œä¸�但没有护法之心,而å��è€Œè‡ªå·±åŽ»å®£è¯´å››ä¼—çš„è¿‡é”™ï¼Œé—´æŽ¥ä½¿ä»¤ä½›æ³•çš„å¼˜ä¼ äº§ç”Ÿäº†éšœç¢�,产生了佛法ä¸çš„罪过,就是众生å�¬åˆ°ä½ è¿™æ ·è®²ï¼Œä»–å¯¹å¤§ä¹˜ä½›æ³•äº§ç”Ÿäº†ä¸€ç§�退转的心æ€�ã€‚é‚£ä½ è¿™æ ·è®²æˆ‘å°±ä¸�å¦ä½›äº†ï¼Œä½ 看我心目ä¸çš„å�¶åƒ�æ˜¯è¿™æ ·å�,那我干脆,人有问题,那么他就牵入法,所以人跟法是ä¸�èƒ½åˆ†å¼€çš„ã€‚ä»–è®¤ä¸ºè¿™ä¸ªäººçš„è¡Œä¸ºæœ‰é—®é¢˜ï¼Œä»–æ‰€è®²çš„æ³•éƒ½æœ‰é—®é¢˜ã€‚æ‰€ä»¥å› ä¸ºå¯¹äººçš„ä¸�满,就牵入了佛法,就使令很多å¦æ³•çš„人退失了大乘的信心。这个时候è�©è�¨ç»“äº†æ³¢ç½—å¤·ç½ªï¼Œå› ä¸ºæ˜¯ä½ å¼•èµ·çš„ã€‚è¿™ä¸ªæ˜¯æ•´ä¸ªä½›é™€åˆ¶æˆ’çš„è¿‡ç¨‹ã€‚
我们看罪相轻é‡�。这个罪相轻é‡�有两方é�¢ã€‚ç¬¬ä¸€ä¸ªå°±æ˜¯ä½ æ‰€å®£è¯´çš„å¯¹è±¡ï¼Œä½ è¯´å››ä¼—è¿‡æ˜¯è®²è°�呢?å�‡è®¾ä½ 是讲大乘的比丘ã€�æ¯”ä¸˜å°¼ï¼Œæ¯”å¦‚è¯´åŒ—ä¼ çš„ï¼Œæ±‰ä¼ çš„åƒ§å›¢å¤§éƒ¨åˆ†éƒ½æœ‰å�—è�©è�¨æˆ’ï¼Œé‚£è¿™æ ·å�犯é‡�ã€‚å› ä¸ºä½ ç ´å��了大乘è�©è�¨çš„形象,也就影å“�到居士对大乘佛法的信心,所以这个犯é‡�。å�‡è®¾ä½ 所批判的是一个å�—ä¼ çš„æ¯”ä¸˜ã€�æ¯”ä¸˜å°¼ï¼Œç›¸å¯¹æ˜¯æ¯”è¾ƒè½»ã€‚å› ä¸ºæˆ‘æ˜¯ä¸€ä¸ªå¤§ä¹˜å¼Ÿå�,我看到å°�乘有过失,我ä¸�ä¼šé€€å¤±å¯¹å¤§ä¹˜çš„ä¿¡å¿ƒï¼Œæ‰€ä»¥ä»–å› ä¸ºä¸�ç ´å��å¤§ä¹˜çš„ä¿¡å¿ƒï¼Œæ‰€ä»¥ç›¸å¯¹åˆ¶å¾—æ¯”è¾ƒè½»ã€‚æ‰€ä»¥ä½ æ‰€å®£è¯´çš„å¯¹è±¡åœ¨åˆ¤å®šç½ªç›¸è½»é‡�是有关系的。

What to me is even more scary is the insidious erosion of the Dharma such that people no longer know what is what anymore. Because not all lay practitioners will have ease of access or the time to read the sutras widely, many will rely on their Dharma teachers to feed them information.
What's straightforward about people who outright teach stuff like suicide bombing or say that there's no cause and effect is that these mistakes can be easily detected by almost anyone. It's a no-brainer to realise that these are extreme and wrong. Therefore, almost no pointing out is necessary for all but the most deluded/misled.

What's straightforward about people who outright teach stuff like suicide bombing or say that there's no cause and effect is that these mistakes can be easily detected by almost anyone. Don't that for granted, if it is so straight forward then why do people still take to suicide bombing? Why do a lot people still celebrate and cheer when there are bombings, stoning?
It is because in different environments values what we hold dear is not regarded as noble. Only when all hold noble to such ideals then we begin to compare.
Only when we sincerely and diligently practice and follow our faith, then we can fathom the profound meanings.
It is only we diligently study both our and other teachings, then only can we begin to see how much further our teachings can bring us to. Not to do so is to pay cursory attention and form summary judgements.

I think non Buddhist are not promoted as a Buddhist text. Recommended reading for people from a Taoist and Confucianist background. Please provide proof that non Buddhist classics are declared as Buddhist!

-- i had personally come across people from mjk camp, pushing di zi gui as buddhism text! he said the text done a better job than the hinayana vehicle in delivering morality! thats sneakingly, deceptively passing out non buddhism text as buddhism text!

Its not just one person. I noe of another case people from MJK camp pushing di zi gui to newbie. Deceptively pushing a non buddhism book to the newbie. Dun tell me its just some fluke, the MJK camp dun have the habit of deceptively pushing non buddhism book to the newbie???

Its out of context. your so called big chinese bookstore is not a buddhist zendo, or buddhist bookstore. the buddhist not suppose to interfere with the running of a big chinese bookstore. But the issue I brought up is about false view propagating by some so call buddhist sect.
is this your suggestion, answer? just practice our own, care for our own realization, and just ignore the problem of false view prevelantly being spread by some so call buddhist sect? is this in line with the spirit of mahayana buddhism? 自了汉way of life?

The question now it whether the non buddhist text is actually promoted as a Buddhist text, or you have interpreted it that way by Reverend Jing Kung followers in spreading the Dharma.

Then correct the offender! Explain to him with all you patience and wisdom to correct his views. Explain why it is wrong or the way he recommended the reading is inappropriate.
Are you able to do that with calmness of mind/? Instead seething with indignance spreading it here?
