  I now hv a desktop and a laptop. I wan both laptop and desktop to hv broadband access. I wan a wired connection in my desktop and a wireless connection in my laptop. so my frenz intro mi to buy a router.
  
  so the Q is .... do i need to hv a lan cable in the desktop? and how to connect the router and the ADSL modem together??

  If your ADSL modem connects to your computer via a USB cable, you will need an ethernet(LAN) cable compatible modem first. Otherwise no go.
