According to pet care expert Dr Tom Burns, mongrels just may be your safest bet if you are concerned about getting a healthy dog.
Dr. Burns elaborates, “The mix of different DNA seems to produce a more reliable outcome. When clients ask me for the healthiest breed, I often point them in the direction of a shelter dog”. He also advises pet owners to beware of the popular misconception that certain pure breeds may be less susceptible to health problems than other breeds.
If you are currently considering adopting a new family pet we strongly urge you to visit one of the animal shelters in Singapore like the Action for Singapore Dogs or the SPCA, which houses several dogs ready for adoption.
