more interested to know whether there will be exchange of service between SMRT and SBST after Aug 31, as the rest of 9 packages will be controlled by them under GCM and govt is suppose to pay them for the running cost....

The remaining 9 packages to be run under them till 2021 when their BSOL expire and bidding game begin again.I suspect SBST will run 6 out of the 9.This 3rd package i feel will be win by other operators.

Given the rich experience of both SBS and TIBS, and their contribution to Singapore as former route planners and all the community outreach programmes that they have done for Singapore, I feel that they will be awarded (rewarded) with at least two GCM contract each. Why two? It's so that even if one of their GCM contract is lost to another operator, they still have a contract. (Actually, I think three is better.)
I do not think we really want to eliminate SBS and TIBS from Singapore, considering they are household names which we have become so fond of.

more interested to know that after 3 bus packages by 2017, I think SBST and SMRT can start performing well.

LTA already giving face to both SBST and SMRT by letting run the remaining 9 contracts,Why would they want to eliminate them?

I hope that Tower Transit combined with Go Ahead for the third package. If they win Go Ahead can use Bulim/Seletar,TT can park their buses at Loyang/Seletar.
Actually LTA should let Ulu Pandan tendered out to bidders too then the remaining 8 would be run by both SBST/SMRT till 2021.Who knows there will be a 13th package later?

Hi mr gekpohboy, what did you say? Not possible though. Already made clear right from beginning of GCM that they will get 9. So all your theories above are invalid. Cheers. Thanks.
LTA shouldnt limit the package to 12 if they wish to have 3-5 operators operation.
West:Bulim,Tuas,Ulu Pandan and another one near Tg Pagar.
North:Gali Batu,Mandai and Sungei Seletar
NorthEast:Kim Chuan and one near Sengkang.

East:Loyang and Changi
CentralNorth:Bishan
Someone set up a petition to protest against the shortening of Service 76 to Eunos from 20 March 2016: http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/keep76intheloop.
12 packages is equal to the number of buses per package of 500 each wic xplains the 80 new bus routes(sme r redundant)
Originally posted by carbikebus:We seem to be forget about svc 36,Buses dont rest at all.Best way to terminate at Bt Merah and introduce 36M from Siglap loop at Tomlinson at 20 mins frequency run by Bndep.36 can partial Arbp/Bndep.
Correction, buses n BCs do rest at CGA, similar to other trunk svcs, this arrangement has been in place all along
36B runs the proposed 36M
36 off peak is 1/5 to 3/4 full weekday
23 can be extended to NBR via Rochor Canal, Bukit Timah, Scotts Rd, Hoot Kiam/Irwell Bank Rd, Outram Rd

Hi mr SBS7557R, yes what they are saying is real. Should just keep it. This is really hard done by. Feel sad for the commuters. Cheers. Thanks.

Thanks. I have signed the petition because I think shortening of 76 to Eunos is an ill-considered and ridiculous proposition.

On a related note, the "brainchild" behind Sv76 amendment, as reported in 16/3's Shin Min.

I did not mention BCs dont rest but the buses didnt off the engine all the way till operation hours end.Unless there is 36B which terminate at T2 from Tomlinson.

Brief translation of article:
Turning hobby into job, 30 year-old bus enthusiast - now a route planner - shortens Sv 76
1. Mr Tan Hao Rui (direct translation, might not be accurate) joined LTA's Policy and Planning Group 4.5 years ago out of his interest in buses. He is currently a Senior Transport Planner under Bus Planning Dept.
2. He has delved into bus photography, bus spotting, advert spotting etc. in his younger days.
3. He outlined various phases in route planning - understanding commuters' travelling patterns and needs, field investigation, resource allocation for new routes, how to connect key nodes etc.
4. Has spent the past 4 years (seriously?!) shortening/amending Sv 76, which will cease to loop at Marine Terr this coming 20th Mar to become a bi-directional service.
5. He derives job satisfaction from providing greater convenience to commuters. (Ok... I can't seem to see how cutting Sv 76 and making people alight and wait for Sv 134 is really more convenient just to solve the reliability issues of long loop service. As many on the forums have said, there are other avenues to alleviate the long headways at the looping end.)
6. Ever since he joined LTA, he has been explaining to friends and relatives the constraints and unfavourable road conditions that bus services are subject to. Has also been taking feedback and recommendations from them.
7. Lastly, he said that resource allocation are based on needs. (Not much surprise here, though it's hard to explain the excesses of Sv 120/121/122, Sv 102/324 and Sv 150's duplication with Sv 13/15/155/966.)
Is he with us here this Mr Tan JR?
Seriously, as a "bus enthusiast", he should know better that Sv76 is certainly not the worst of such looping services. I would think that the previous amendment a couple of years ago should have helped ensure better reliability in some way or another. There are other loop services, like Sv62 which others have mentioned, which deserve more attention.
I only know Mr Tan Hao Rui and the evergreen Mr Zhan Yanxin from LTA senior transport planner bus division and a few others more here.

technically they do turn off and restart engine but for a few seconds only when they change shift.
