map of existing services, for comparison
-No change to 246 and 249, since the areas they serve are quite far from Joo Koon
-No change to 252, pax can easily access Joo Koon MRT/Int from the bus stops along Joo Koon Circle
-182, 192, 193, 254, 255, 257 shortened to Joo Koon Int via Benoi Rd (on the map, they enter/exit Joo Koon Int via Joo Koon Circle, although they may enter/exit via Benoi Rd instead)
-251 amended to skip Benoi Rd, looping via Shipyard Rd and Pioneer Rd, replacing lost link of 254 between part of Pioneer Rd and Boon Lay
-New svc 256 from Boon Lay looping at Lok Yang Way, via Jurong West St 62/61, Pioneer MRT, Pioneer Rd North, Jln Ahmad Ibrahim and Benoi Rd/Joo Koon MRT. Replaces lost links of 257 (Jurong West St 62/61, Jln Ahmad Ibrahim) and 192 (Pioneer Rd North, Lok Yang Way)
-New svc 253 from Boon Lay looping at Benoi Rd/Pioneer Rd/Benoi Sector, via Jurong West St 63/Pioneer MRT, Upper Jurong Rd and Benoi Rd/Joo Koon MRT. Replaces lost links of 182/193 (Upper Jurong Rd), 251 (Benoi Rd) and 255 (Jurong West St 63, Benoi Sector)
-Svcs 253 and 256 may stop at bus stops along Benoi Rd, which requires pax to walk more to Joo Koon Int/MRT but is faster for the bus, or turn into Joo Koon Int from Benoi Rd, which provides a more direct connection but slows the bus down and lengthens journey time.
-New feeder 244 from Boon Lay, via St 64, Ave 4, Pioneer Rd North, St 91/92/93 and Boon Lay Way. Circular route similar to 243, operating with G/W to indicate direction of travel. Replaces lost links of 192/193 (JW Ave 4) and 254 (Boon Lay Way), and provides new links to JW St 93. Will be more frequent and easier to manage compared to existing JIS serving residential areas.
-In summary, Joo Koon Int to have 6 or 8 svcs (182, 192, 193, 254, 255, 257, 253, 256), requiring 6 or 10 boarding berths (2 each for 253 and 256, for different directions), with 252 at bus stops along Joo Koon Circle (no change).
-Boon Lay Int from 10 svcs serving Jurong Industrial area (182, 192, 193, 246, 249, 251, 252, 254, 255, 257) to 6 svcs serving Jurong Industrial area (246, 249, 251, 252, 253, 256) and 1 new feeder svc (244).
Bus svcs may be amended again in future when Tuas MRT extension and new Tuas bus terminal open in 2016. 182 may be shortened to Tuas Terminal via the new MRT station(s) and new svcs may be needed to cover more of Tuas South.
Your 244 can be made to operate green/white plate like 243 does.My proposal is to extend 246 and 249 on top of the 6 services to joo koon to cover the missing links in upp jurong road, j.w street 61,lok yang and due to limited parking spaces in joo koon int, 192 can be made to loop around joo koon int since it will be a rather short route.255 can be coverted to green/white plate type from joo koon covering benoi and gul sectors respectively.
What if, the purpose of having Joo Koon Bus Interchange is just to complement Tuas Bus Terminal, and empty lots in Boon Lay Bus Interchange, so there can be new services to serve Jurong West and the industrial areas?
Personally, I guess there will be routes from (re-routed to) Joo Koon Bus Interchange and Tuas Bus Terminal being re-routed to loop around Boon Lay Bus Interchange.
I believe Joo Koon Bus Interchange will be used to park buses besides having buses to run bus services originating there; a "pit stop" for long-distance Tuas Bus Terminal routes that may loop around Boon Lay.
What is latest news on Joo Koon opening date?
okay. we have discussed the interchange, the routes, the capacity. now is just left with the official announcements regarding Joo Koon Bus Interchange.
Well, here's a reply to keep this thread going and prevent it from expiring, until the official announcements regarding Joo Koon Bus Interchange are made.
Seen the layout,Looks like meant for only 7 service the most..By the way shouldnt it be called Joo Koon Integrated Transport Hub instead?

The way LTA has gone adding services to CCK, HG, PGL - most services do not even have 2 dedicated parking bays going forward. Considering this, LTA may wish to add even 10 services.
Though realistically to start with I think Joo Koon might host 5-6 services.

I am eagerly waiting to see Joo Koon opening and the rehaul of the JIS services +182/192/193 (in case some say they are not JIS).
Hope route planning puts good thought
1. to reduce duplication of routes
2. meet unmet needs within JIS and Tuas industrial complex

Joo koon i can understand if they make it small,But for Bedok?
maybe use for tour buses will be better. those tour buses can stop there and go to Tuas check point. even 160 can stop.
I know its sound impossible but extending svc like 187 & 198 there might sound reasonable beside introduce a few industrial svc there.

I prefer those Boon Lay bus services which travelled out of Jurong West, Jurong Industrial Estate and Tuas to stay at Boon Lay Int instead.

When officially open?

But then, you need to consider those who are working in Jurong Industrial Estate and are currently taking buses to Boon Lay and transferring to JIS. If some JIS are shortened to Joo Koon without trunk services from Joo Koon to Boon Lay and beyond, they have to take buses to Boon Lay, take MRT to Joo Koon and again take JIS to their destination. Or they have to take MRT from their home to Joo Koon. Forcing everyone to take MRT to Joo Koon is no good: what if it breaks down? A trunk service from Joo Koon to Boon Lay and beyond would be good to relieve load on MRT, and provide alternative routes to Joo Koon (especially for those who stay in nearby towns such as Boon Lay, Jurong East and Bukit Batok).
Well, what Jurong Industrial Area workers' really need is a bus link between their workplace and the nearest MRT station and I don't think apart from those living in Jurong West and perhaps Jurong East and Bukit Batok, others would like to take direct bus back home from work so I don't see the need for any bus services from Joo Koon to be travelled out of Jurong Industrial Area, Jurong West and Tuas.
They ask motorists to take public tpt and all they do now is buliding small ITHs,introduce many short haul trunks and feeders? Now Joo Koon svc cannot travel beyond Boon Lay also? Then everyone squueze inside MRT and trains have to work harder then neverending breakdown issues again is it?LTA has to think out of the box not just giving out contracts, built ITHs,adding more redundant buses..Out of 10 service pls introduce at least 2 semi express trunks leh..Latest 983 is a very good joke,Might as well renumbered it to 303 and wait for later date to introduce 983..Those added buses are for those increase populations and foreigners that work here..Cant see any massive significant in future. The only things i see is near empty buses bunching during peaks

As you said yourself, it looks impossible right now for 187 or 198 to be extended, looking at the horrible trend LTA has set. I am hoping they learn soon enough and not commit more mistakes.

You definitely need some trunks to ply from Boon Lay to JIS. The only advantage is you don't need all to start from Boon Lay once Joo Koon opens. Would be good to have 192 still from Boon Lay. 254 also can start from Boon Lay given it plies Upper Jurong.
There needs to be more systematic mapping of services to reduce duplication and enhance connectivity. Areas not connected today with bus service also needs to be given priority. Especially Tuas South extension where huge factories are set up by corporate have no bus service. I expect a new service from Joon Koon heading there.
I expect new service from Boon Lay to certain estates within JIS close to Soon Lee/Pioneer where no bus service today. Lot of scope for improvement within JIS.
Boon Lay will still retain a few of JIS svc,Would be suprised if 246 goes to Joo Koon..252 i think will stay at Boon Lay.I would think 49 will start from Boon Lay if 4-5 JIS shifted to Joo Koon and we might see LTA introduce 4x svc from Boon Lay too.

246 def Boon Lay
249, 251, 252 also should be Boon Lay.
254, 255, 257, 182, 192, 193 all can be from Joo Koon but 2 of these 6 should continue to originate from Boon Lay. I propose it should be 182 and 192.
193 can be renumbered to 253 operating from Joo Koon.
Today is Joo Koon and Pioneer MRT stations' six years old birthday!!!
Pioneer and Joo Koon have been around for six years already...
soon, Joo Koon Bus Interchange will open. and I am still waiting for my bus service to Pioneer...
anyway, I read from an article about Joo Koon Bus Interchange at https://publictransportsg.wordpress.com/2014/02/27/joo-koon-bus-interchange/. They say Joo Koon Bus Interchange will open in June 2015. Not sure how true this is. Maybe this is just a guess, since March holidays coming already and until now the bus interchange does not seem to be ready. So next possible period is June.
back to the question:
Q: What is the purpose of having Joo Koon Bus Interchange?
It could after all be just to host new bus routes.... while empty some lots at Boon Lay Bus Interchange for new routes.
Actually, even without Joo Koon Bus Interchange, we can still have empty lots at Boon Lay Bus Interchange what..... just shift 174e over to the bus bay lor, since 174e also not every part of the day or everyday in operation. Then the emptied lot at the end-on berth can be used for new route already....
some pictures of Joo Koon Bus Interchange, backdated to 30 November 2014:
3 Sawtooth Berths...
Hi everyone. I am sorry. I would like to confess that the statement I wrote about the number of parking lots is based on what I saw from the master mimic of Joo Koon Bus Interchange. I have a strong feeling that the drawing on the master mimic is subject to changes.
There may be more than eighteen parking lots. I guess there will be around twenty two parking lots.
