SINGAPORE : A temporary market in Jurong West has been erected using new materials.
The stalls at Jurong West Street 52 are actually tents. Usually, such temporary stalls are erected using concrete and zinc—roofs.
The temporary market will be the place of business for stall holders for the next six months, while the Jurong wet market is being renovated.
Out of the 190 stallholders, only half have shifted to the make—shift market. And only about 20 percent of them were open for business when the temporary market started functioning on Tuesday.
The stallholders will need to fork out S$800 a month to rent a small stall, and S$1,000 for a large one.
One stallholder said, "Compared to last time, it’s more convenient. This new one is also very good."
Another commented, "I didn’t expect the crowd to be like this. I just put out very few goods to sell, but (the sales) has (exceeded) my expectations." — CNA/ms
