This a very tough time during promotion!!

My boss give clear hints, three of us in the office will get promoted to the next grade in the annual promotion exercise.
One of them is my buddy, the other is a selfish bastard and one more is myself.
Words spread around...everyone is quite sure liao.
In the end, only two of us got promoted. Myself and the selfish bastard.
My buddy did not get it.
The reason? He has not reach a certain time of service in the company...one month short to qualify for promotion. So he has to wait for next year.
Now my buddy is very upset and took leave to cool off. He came back in between to get some documents done and he passed to my colleague to let my boss sign. He dun even wan to face my boss.
I dunno how to console him. He can just say "YOu got it, easy for you to say take it easy lah!". This a tough time...my buddy dun wanna talk to me (or anybody), my colleagues are teasing me everyday on my promotion, and some...keep bugging me for treats.
What shd I do? esp for my buddy who is very down...

further its correct that he missed by 1 month. Anyway, if he qualifies next year, it could be a double promotion or what mah....
should not be too adamant or zhi zhuo on such stuff....after grade promotion, the positions are still the same mah...and you still do the same job.

this kind of thing bo bian one.....normally, if its in sewer serwice, only 3 things count, in my opinion in case ganna sue....is
1) Educational Level
2) Por Lam Pa
3) Years of service
Ability to work and wat fark good working attitude etc, teamwork, they normally say will look but is bullsh1t. -

i WAS a sewer serwant....so during promotion period i was in the orhwice...got people who obviously work better didn't get ranked higher than someone who went to get a part time diploma...u say leh ? alot of unlisted factors come into play and working ability unfortunately, IN MY OPINION, is not near the topOriginally posted by dragg:civil servant?

troy, sometimes it's not the boss.. it's the boss's boss.. the HR, the top management..
i've seen it happen to one of the junior officers where i work... one of the senior management tekan him because he answer back and humiliated the big boss... because of that, he was held back until the &*%@ retired...
immediately after the &^$# retired, the junior officer, in 7 years, was promoted 3 times.. because he was that capable...
here, it may be your boss try to push him, the top fellas refuse.. got one post untaken so your other colleague kio tio gu lan ... -
